I read it in a magazine this morning, I sure hope its true. Although Strummer won't be there but I do think it would be a heck of a show Tim Armstrong is one of the biggest Clash and Strummer fans alive so I am sure he will take it the extra mile to make the show a good one.

Yep, gotta agree with you there - if anyone could even have a go at filling Joe's shoes it would be him!

Did you catch the tribute at the grammys when Joe died? Springsteen/Costello and the bassist from No Doubt did London Calling? It was cool to see Bruce do it. He reminds me of an American version of Strummer - same working class roots/approach/guts.

I remember when you introduced me to him the intro was "Jeff is a Clash fan to" he had a big ass grin.

I LOVED the early clash albums, London Calling being a classic! I lost that album quite some tiime ago. I was most partial though to their self titled album- all of my favorite classics- Im So Bored with The USA, Janie Jones, etc.. I also really liked The Guns of Brixton. I remember when I was a kid one of my friends mom would sometimes drive us to school in the mornings.... shed BLAST The Guns of Brixton.... in her Volvo 740 wagon! We lived in upper middle class suburbia, and im sure the other soccer moms were pointing thier noses in disgust as we'd pull up.. LOL. We'd end up singing along with my friends mom. Most of the time tho she listened to NPR.

BUT my all time favorites are early Yes ( South Side of The Moon, Heart of Sunrise etc.) Can, Holger Czukay, early King Crimson, and the electronic pioneers of the 60's- the Silver Apples.

Can's "I want more" is one of my favorites, and Oscillations by the Silver Apples.... if you havent heard them, check em out... its hard to believe what they were doing in the 60's..... ingenious!!

I agree with everyone here about the Clash being as important and influential as they were. But am I the only one who's heart broke a little bit when I saw a Jaguar commercial that used "London Calling" as the theme? Strummer was the last guy in the world I thought would sell out. May he rest in peace, but say it ain't so, Joe.

I have seen that commecial, and the first thing I though was "WOW, that song does NOT mesh well with my image of Jaguar." Seems Jaguar was trying to appeal to a new market with that one. Toooo bad they used London Calling. I dont associate London Calling, or any Clash song with Jaguar cars, or vs. versa.

However, Global a Go Go was a nice Strummer album- great for summer evenings... id open the windows up to let the evening cool in, turn up Global a Go Go and let the music fill the house.... great for a relaxing BBQ, sittin on the porch, and for cooling off after a hot summer day.

Any music aficionado show check out the documentary Westway To The World; it is basically the story of the clash and shows the path that The Clash created to modern music.

Awesome doc as well and well worth seeing. What other band could sell out 15 consecutive concerts?

Enjoy the Silence or Leave in Silence? Which album?

Last time I saw DM was in Tampa...for the Personal Jesus tour, I think.

Saw them in Detroit once too...I forget who opened.

Saw A Flock of Seagulls once too....much, much better in concert than I imagined. (they opened for The Fixx)
