when i was young i hated going to them. probably fear of the dead too.

now i dont mind at all unless it is a young person.

you have a chance to meet relatives and express a little of what you knew of the deceased.

i am sorry for your loss works even if you barely know the survivor. if you know them well some kind of story often is nice. humorous too is ok so you can smile and cry together.

at my 84 year old fathers funeral, i told some of the stories that he liked to tell and we all laughed together. he had a good life, a good large family and believed he was going a better place where his pain would end. he had cancer.

dad had some really funny stories about his real life experiences. he once accidently shot the horse, 'queeny". when he was a kid. his dad gave him a 22 rifle when he was about 8. different world back then in the rural areas of indiana.

as a teenager they used to drive into town and drive on the sidewalks. too

They are dead. Dead is dead. No difference to me anyhows. If I were there, they were a friend of mine unless I want to see them dead. In the case of the former, I'd miss them young or old. Not much of a difference to me.

With the funeral, the hardships of life are ended. With a wedding, it has begun?

A wedding is simply a funeral where one gets to smell their own flowers.

What really sucks is showing up at a funeral of someone who you barely know, because you are friends with their 2nd cousing or some crap like that.

" I barely knew him, but he seemed like an alright fellow"

It's been my experience that people show up out of "obligation" even if they haven't seen the deceased in years. No thanks.

I have a 6 month rules. If we haven't spoken or seen each other in 6 months, we don't care about each other enough to warrant a visit on each others death bed. Very few exeptions allowed.

When I die, I want only the people who cared about me, whether it be 3 or 20, watching my ashes float away.

Drinks and food are encouraged.
