Does your boss suck?

If yours really sucks, you might want to enter a contest to find out if you really do put up with more crap than any of the rest of us.

If you think so, head on over to :

http://www.workingamerica.org/badboss/?ad=ba&blog=BartCop

Put your story in and see what happens. At the very least, you may leave there feeling like things aren't so bad at your place after all.

Good for you!

I see you guys all have terrific jobs working for people who aren't *********s. That's great. I thought at least one of two of you might be in the same boat as I am.

Good for you.

I had a boss who had such a strangle hold on the organization, everyone was afraid to turn him in. He was always threatening to fire people, and his sexist comments at meetings made everyone uncomfortable. People who kissed up to him laughed at his off-color jokes that weren't very funny. Glad to be away from there.

Friend of mine, US Army Colonel, was told that he could not take leave to be with his wife while she had breast cancer treatment. Isn't that something?

No, we're all just posting from work where our internet usage is subject to employer monitoring.

great boss

I'm posting from work but i have a terrific boss that pays me very well and gives his employees all kinds of perks, like free on-site car detailing every two weeks, catered lunches, movie passes, gift cards, etc.

I don't know what you do, but it sounds like a nice place to work. Hey, . . . wait a minute! Are you one of those guys whose company is monitoring their internet usage? I get it. . .

bad boss

I am employed as a senior analyst for a large pharmaceutical company. My current boss is the best, he is professional, fair, honest, reasonable, and always quickly responds to issues. He just lets me do my job and never questions my work.

However, with my previous employer it was quite the opposite. I had a boss that possessed most of the worst qualities of bad management. One of the most disturbing traits he had was getting great pleasure with reporting mistakes made by others to upper management. Most of the time he would sit in his office with the door closed with his “pet” employees going in and out. He would place calls to human resources almost daily to build cases against employees he didn’t favor. Here are just a few examples of his behavior:

-Encouraged staff to report mistakes made by others directly to him, failure to comply meant you were not a “team player”. Employees who complied were rewarded with extra days off and raises. Employees who refused to comply were forced to work extra hours, denied salary increases, and were assigned to the smallest cubicles. Pet employees had the latest computers and equipment, others were provided with their hand me down equipment.
-He had a habit of firing off a stream of short emails often exceeding a dozen emails in quick succession, e.g. “where are you”, “what are you doing”, “need an update”, etc. Almost every email contained bad grammar and misspellings.
-Made racist comments and degrading comments regarding women in meetings
-Would stare at female employees at every opportunity with a scary leer
-Proudly informed me he had a license to carry a concealed weapon and kept a handgun in his car.
-Had overhead cameras installed in the staff area and activity was taped
-I volunteered to work a 24 hour shift on a Sunday and was written up for being fifteen minutes late for work 8am on Monday.
-He pulled me into his office and was ordered to provide ideas to improve morale.
-He was afraid to face customers directly whenever there was an issue that required his attention

The company legal department held an internal investigation after complaints against him for harassment. Incredibly, he kept his job and was recently applauded in a management meeting by a vice president stating "we need more people like him!".

I'm in the trucking business. I used to dispatch but now i mostly do customer care, which i very much enjoy. I just came from a company that DID monitor/restrict internet usage, but my new co. actually encourages internet browsing during downtime, between calls, etc. Keeps our minds fresh they say.
