Gosh, you mean I should save my support for an administration that is right about everything they say and makes no mistakes?

How innovative, why didn't I think of that?

Bush bears the blame for the messes he's made, but you have a point here.

I have never had occasion to conjugate the verb, "To Smite." But I believe the past tense is "smitten." But I could have been smitified by an ignorance stick.

No, but I would hope that you would have at least some minimum performance standards. How incompetent does this administration have to get before you start to doubt them?

I originally wrote smitten, but that just seemed too, something...

I like smighted in this case. It's kind of a word that doesn't exist used to exemplify a monniker that doesn't logically exist in this case.

They could begin by ignoring that there was a problem, but they don't.

I concede your argument concerning smitification.

you could have enough smidgens as appropriate to not become smitten...

Unless you go with pure grain, in which case you would quickly be smited.

Richard Perle is in the running with Bill Kristol for person I most have a hard time stomacing. I can only imagine he's collecting remuneration from his invaluable service on the boards of numerous defense industry firms.

He reminds me a lot of Achmahd Chalabi (sp), a grinning, amoral opportunist who has somehow weasled his way into fortune and influence.

Good stuff. I was pretty certain I recalled hearing a lot of talk about it but I didn't have the quotes at my quick disposal.

This is part of the reason we're so unpopular there, IMO. Much of the reconstruction is being contracted out to American firms and a lot of that is way behind schedule or over-budget. Of course the instability has a lot to do with that and that instability was widely predicted, though not by administration spokespeople.

So to Iraqi builders and contractors, frequently frozen out, the whole thing looks a lot like theft of their oil resources.

Show me one conflict in America that was/is as deeply intractible as the Sunni/Shia split. Euro-Americans had a lot less in common with Afro-Americans than Sunnis with Shias yet we have managed to make a far better peace with each other than the Sunni/Shia. Even with all the brutality of the Jim Crow days, the sheer number of Shia deaths under Saddam, and the current rate of Sunni deaths at the hands of Shia death squads dwarf the number of deaths of blacks at the hands of whites.

I don't have a good explanation for why they have such a violently bad relationship, do you?

so you think the nuclear option would have led to certain victory? a huge smoking crater where a country once was? that would be a victory?

if you think what we did over there was not barbaric, i suggest you ask the folks who lived through napalm and agent orange if it was barbaric or not.

i also suggest you read "dear mom, a snipers viet nam" by joseph ward. some interesting insights there from one who lived it.
