On the other hand the dental field is great! You want a Ferrari? Become a good dentist, I know a few and they really make good money. In my area $100k-$300k a year no problem. If you own a practice you can bring in $1m a year!

Going through all the schooling is hard, and costs a fortune, and after you get out you suck wind for a few years. But when your about 30+/- wow you clean up!

As you are studying for tests and all your friends are partying away, or majoring in basket weaving. Just remember you will be driving to work in a new S550 wearing a $1k+suit.

Money isn't everything, but its certainly nice to have some.

I had a neighbor who had a degree in engineering. Then later he went back to school to study law. Now he's an intellectual property lawyer. He seems to be making a lot of money.

I expect that is your real love lies in the direction of engineering, you would find studying law to be incredibly boring and tedious.

Or is this choice #2?... #3?...#4?

Seems to me if you have a "fear of Math", forget about engineering ....and West Point.

Stick with Poli Sci. Heck, there's always room for 1 more "Democatic Strategist" or "Republican Strategist" on cable news channels.

Nah. I spent a year in dental school. My uncle has a practice in Charlotte, NC and also a satellite office in the country that I was to join and take over. Run the numbers: $110/cleaning, 3 hygenists@8-10 cleanings per day, billing clerk, patient accountant, receptionist......Assload of overhead and a lot of work. This isn't why I took a permanent leave of absence, btw, but it is not the ticket to riches--the numbers just aren't there. Endodontics or oral surgery if you are into mouths.

Malpractice insurance isn't that bad, btw, Mistress.

i like doing technical things.. im really not bad in math.. i passed calculus with an A... im just afraid of things... if i had to drop out of engineering id probably go into a degree for teaching shop class and have a kick ass high school shop class that would do awesome projects like restore a w123 or just interesting things that would keep kids interested in the field of engineering like my shop teacher has done for me

Hopefully you can pass on motivation & inspiration to kids...

Don't worry about getting overpaid though... no worries here. I agree with Hatty- $$ isn't everything, but it doesn't hurt.

Most of the teachers I know also have great stability and fantastic 3-3.5% raises per year. This will almost keep up with the cost of living (possibly in rural Mississippi). Sometimes they even get a pension... well, not in Massachusetts anymore. You may eventually be able to pay off your student loans at age 52 when your kids are entering college... cycle of poverty

Do what YOU love. If you haven't found it, keep looking. It will find you. Don't be ashamed to make mistakes, you might even learn some valuable lessons. Oh, and don't wake up @ 50 and wonder. Good luck.

These will enlighten anyone or at least give you a new perspective and they're not just about $ or wealth... just some great life lessons that no teacher will ever teach you

He just took delivery of a $1.5M Jefferson.

Not to mention he works three and a half days a week. He has a big practice, and does cleanings yes. But oral surgery and other things as well.

I'm a financial guy, so I take some of RKs stuff tongue in cheek.
I've read RD, PD and cash flow quadrant. I do want to buy the cash flow game.

My most recent read was "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George Clason
probably the most powerful financial book (and life lessons) i've ever read

The cash flow game looks pretty good I need to purchase it as well.

I have been wanting to read The Richest Man in Babylon for a while. I think I will after my currant batch of books is done with.

I think RK's books are ment to be a general guide to get you thinking and heading in the right direction. Also he is a real estate guy he is not that good with paper assets. His first book Rich Dad Poor Dad I read just after it first came out, late 90's. That book got my thinking going in the right direction.
