Me neither. I wish the cops would go around with those meters and ticket some of those people that exceed whatever the specified noise level is. If they did that, I could care less. No muffler and under the limit (55 decibles, I think), have fun. Over the limit? Have a ticket.

I suppose I can see that moderately "loud" mufflers would be ok....but those really loud ones either make my jump outta my seat, or make my ears hurt. In the land of the nearly dead, loud pipes do get noticed - but the eardrum busting kind, I could do without.

Problem is they don't go ticketing cars that do create that sort of noise. Cars with speakers that I can hear in my house when they drive by at night irritate me more than loud pipes. Personally, I wish they would bust all of the vehicles whatever they are if they make over a certain decibel limit and have done with it.

A giant anti subwoofer, subwoofer. Just point, "shoot" and watch it crumble.
Maybe a giant noise-canceling subwoofer would be better.

I agree, it is very annoying to hear riders hot rodding bikes at a light with a loud exhaust. In my eyes, all that does is wash the cylinder walls down, and heat up the motor.

What is really amazing is watching people do burnouts at Daytona Bike Week. They just hold the throttle wide open until the tire pops. Someone must be making a fortune, selling tires to these people.

I always have to wait for them to pass, before I can tell the waitress what I want to order.
I can hear them at my house during off-shore racing season. Probably practice runs, since they don't race quite as far south as my house is. (and I'm east of US 41)

There is a local Skater with a big set of brand new Merlin V8's. Like 1,200hp each or something crazy like that. I think the boat is really cool and sounds awsome, you can hear him open it up a couple of miles inland. But the owner is a jerk. He will go down to the boat on a nice quite night, and just turn one engine on for like 20 minutes revving it the whole time. WTF jerk. I think he just does it to piss people off, I know everyone that has a back yard facing that boat has said something to him.

The coolest ever was the Drambuie on Ice jet cat boat. Sounded like a 747 taking off, flames shooting out of the exhuast. The old guys at the yacht club loved that thing! Some crazy speed to I think it was capible of like 180 knots or some crazy number like that, the rooster tail was amazing!

As to the cars, I like loud cars only if they sound good. If you have a POS 4 banger keep the stock muffler on, no one wants to hear that POS rev. If you have a 911T or something along those lines, please install an aftermarket exhuast. So those of us who cannot afford such cars can enjoy the sound.

See this sounds sexy! I'd have no problem with this car buzzing my street!

Then you have the annoying types:

Not from speakers, but I did get a loud muffler ticket in a '74 Saab, which had a 2x2 header and race exhaust. It was somewhat loud, and quite loud if I got on the pedal. Nothing like the H-D though, even at idle. But still I received a citation.

I'm pretty sure that I know the reason too. I had been working on some software at home, and thought that I would want some beer after I was done. I walked out of the quicky-mart with a thirty pack of beer, just beating the deadline of 01:30 when they had to quit selling. There was a county unit in the parking lot who followed me out. I'm sure he thought that I was there for a refill, but I was stone-cold sober. That alone probably pissed him off, so he had to ticket me for something.

I briefly thought about fighting the ticket in court, but as the exhaust system from the head back was sold as an off-road unit, I figured that it was worse than a losing battle. I paid the fine and went on my way, never to get another noise citation with that car.

I never got a noise citation with my bike, even though I really did deserve one.

I'm with you Hat - if it sounds good, loud is a-ok. Harleys jusy don't sound right. How come Ducatis sound soooo much better?
Sitting next to a Chevelle at a stop light with stroked big block and open pipes is music; a Harley is simply obnoxious.

I used to have neighbor with a real low 911 Carrera, he kind of removed the interiors from the muffler. That resulted in one of the 'deepest low frequency ground vibrations' I've heard, in idle and low RPM's.
Once it was out of the garage and picked up speed, it was faster than the sound anyways ...

Terrible! I was out in New Mexico at Elephant Butte a while ago. After partying I had this hang over in the morning and they started racing their boats before breakfast already .... boy, I had to get out of there.

But the real thunder I observed along the shore off Miami Beach, the last time I was there. That guy was pacing up and down, kept tuning the engine, like he was getting ready for another Miami Vice showdown.
