How to get a old Muscle Car with a New Engine

Short of doing it myself, because I dont want to, anyone know of a good source of old muscle cars with new engines, not TBI, or updated old stuff, the new fuel injection and what have you and a T-56 trans. stuff like that? (for a reasonable price that is)

This is a Mercedes place, so it probably would help more to focus on the brand of musclecar you would like, then search the net for enthusiast forums specializing in that marque, and ask there.

If for example, it was a Ford Mustang, you could try www.Californiaspecial.com and while they only focus on the 1968 Mustang GT/CS and HCS model, they could point you in the right direction.

The Barrett-Jackson event has it all. I’ve been out to Scottsdale AZ a couple of times this past week. DJ has been there all week. (2 wins. W/ 1 more to go.) I’d be willing to bet, there is a car that fits your needs out there somewhere. Take a look at the lists on their site. There are also means to contact sellers of unsold vehicles through B-J. (It ends this weekend, but you can still get a bid in, registered to be there or not)
They also can provide you with contacts that do just what you want in their restorations.

Yah, but he said for a reasonable price

Barrett Jackson is for the top of the line and ultra rare stuff, with the TOP prices asked and sometimes paid

No. No. Not true at all. Not at all.

Yes - They do sell/auction some very fine automobiles. Often at prices that many can not afford. But you’ve obviously been watching the highlight shows.

If you’d go through their results listings for each day, you’ll see that many (as in most) of the cars sold are going for less (a lot less) than what you probably paid for that 560. They will run through lot numbers by the dozens, that 80% of which don’t break 25K. Of the first 25 lots, most were in the teens or 4 figure range. Of the first two days (480 lots) very few were beyond the 50-60K range. Most in the 20s.

Go to the site and see for yourself. It’s not at all “top of the line and ultra rare stuff” like you think.
Not by a long shot.

As metioned, plenty of deals to be had.

My co-worker's husband is AZ now (for a few weeks), as there are a host of other auctions that pop up around Barrett-Jackson time, so he hits 'em all and finds some good deals. He's an old car broker (my dream job) so knows exactly what to look for.
Exactly - Everyone remembers the ‘70 AAC Cudas, the Caddy series 62 convertibles, the ‘67 GTOs and the ‘59 de Sotos. The list goes on........

There’s a heck of a lot more cars crossing the block. If you know what muscle you like. You can find one heck of a nice driver at most any level to start work on. Most are going as great bargains to the new owners.
Most can have that crate you speak of dropped in, and not need a thing to run as a daily driver that’s for sure going to turn plenty-o-heads. As bought.

Yea I checked the forums and pretty much its all DIY guys, not buy it that way dudes. I checked on the crates and for 20K, if you picked up a car for 3000 and a trans at even 2K, a LS7 is -only- 13 thousand! How cool would that be, a 69 Goat sporting brand new ridiculous Z06 skillz yo. I am on the Barret Jackson site, i didnt even think of that and I get the newsletter, thanks! I probably will end up doing the stuff myself, but how does one get a loan for something like a project such as this? Thats really why I kinda need to just buy it... I dont have a whole lot good to say about this American jackassery, but with my new job, it'd be not so much of a commute so, guzzle away.

In the neighborhood and you didn't say hello? Did you see the skywriting to wish Muhammad Ali a Happy Birthday? As my GF said, it's probably the only time you'll see "GOAT" skywritten... (Greatest Of All Time, acronym)

Whatcha biddin' on? (Like I can afford to do anything about it!)

Sorry - I had no idea you lived out there. We’ve got a place up off of Hayden in McCormick Ranch. Don’t get out to the dry air too much lately though.

Nope - I missed the sky writing. That’s pretty cool stuff. I’ll have to see if someone’s got pics.

I’m trying like Hell this morning to get out of here (TX) and head that way. Kids are being a bit slow with their packing. But - Gotta love ‘em.

So far, I’ve pretty much been stuck back here hitting and missing with helicopter charters hopping around this weather we’ve been having. I made it out earlier this past week though. Now the kids and I will head out for the evening gatherings and tomorrows events.

As for what we’ve purchased so far: Well - It’s been an odd auction for us this year. DJ is a Brit, and at one time a couple of years back sold her XKE. That’s been bug’n her since. So she set out for another. Bought a ‘63 XKE S1, but someone offered her enough for it to get her to release it prior to taking ownership. (It happens a lot out there.) So then she decides to go more classic and buys a ‘53 XK 120 R. That’s where she stands for now. I sent her for a particular 356 Speedster, and a 356 A Cab., which she did buy. So, Im happy. I’m only keeping the A. The Speedster is for my dad.
Earlier in the week she bought a few American classics, bidding on behalf of some friends of ours. A ‘59 Impala, a ’67 and a ’57 T-Bird. One of which, the ‘57, she thinks she wants to keep. Damn thing is pink. We’ll see.

We’ll be in the Lifestyle Pavilion this evening at 5:00 or so for sure. Wine tasting thing (I think). If you head out there - Look for a girl in a white Polo shirt with a TOS Aviation logo embroidered on the front. Her name is Shelby. Find her, and you find DJ and I.

Let me add this - A few of the guys here will be bouncing in and out of this site today w/ my ID. So, if you think you’ll make it out, PM me/them here. I’ll call back a few times today to have them check it for me.

If you begin the rebuild in a phased manner, do suspension and brakes first, and upgrade from stock, particularly brakes. 1970 braking systems were generally way underspec'd, even when new.
