Why not have him join the Air Force? He'll hopefully get some discipline out of it, he can get great training - especially if interesting in engineering stuff, he can earn money for college and he'll get great benefits and an excellent retirement if he decides to stick with it.

I haven't checked the Air Force, but I talked to the Coast Guard recruiter. He can't get into boot camp until November. Almost any kind of engineering will require Calculus and sometimes Chemistry, and he seems unable to grasp the basics, let alone level 4. Journalism may be a better fit. If he screws up this quarter, that brings us to summer, and he will be on his own then, because we will simply be out of ideas. Thanks for all the ideas and advice.

Nope, wasn't going to go there. It was more for subtext. I don't get surprised by the things you say any more.

My aunt is an architecture professor at Cal Poly. Architecture involves doing lots of stuff with your hands. Maybe he could do that.
