Ya'll aren't gonna let me go quietly, eh?
Thanks! Just checked back in here to see if ANYONE even noticed. Really didn't expect even THIS much response. Still the good crowd I've grown to "know and love" Ok. I'll keep the forum in my link list.
So far, the Lexus is an awesome car. Only had it a couple weeks, so soon to tell. But I researched the hell out of a whole list of cars(Accord, Camry, Avalon, Maxima, C-class Benz, ect, ect) and these kept floating back to the top of the list. Found a '99 on E-Bay with only 34k miles for $16K, and grabbed it quick. Flew down and drove it home. Not quite the ride the 'ol SD has, but close. Very smooth and quiet. Got about 25mpg on the trip home.

Hey, Kerry!
Haven't watched it yet. I hear it's done pretty well. I guess they did insist on lumping all the splinter groups with "us" though, as usual. Especially the so-called "fundmentalist" groups. That's like saying the Lutherans are still part of the Catholic church. Oh well.

Hey, Vronsky You're still here, too, huh? Another one with thick skin Good to see ya still around.
I'm not much into Bimmers, so haven't really looked at them much. I owned a bunch of older Audi's, and love them, but won't buy a newer one. I think they bought out all the old Lucas electric inventory, if that says anything to ya I have friends with A6's. Scarey cars! The reviews I've read on M-B's sound about the same, aside from what I've learned on this forum.
So, why can't these manufacturers figure out they have major issues!?

Don't want to hijack this thread and turn it into (yet) another quality thread.

But....we bought our oldest daughter a Starmarked 2002 C320 wagon. so far the wagon has turned out to be a solid performer. It runs well, it is rock solid, gets great has mileage and has had not a single quality issue.

My 1999 E320 has been an equally solid, and trouble-free performer.

Go figure.

I know a lot of people with late model Mercedes and all are very happy. Still waiting to come across one of those horror stories I read online.

You rarely read the success stories, too boring. It's the drama of failure.

I know, its funny how everyone thinks the W140 S600 is satans spawn. My buddy's dad has had his 1995 since 2004 and its been dead nuts reliable. Just this year they are going to have to do the wireing harness, and a few other things. Not bad for a 12 year old car, not bad at all. Still runs and looks like new.

Actualy the most troublesome MB I know of is my SDL. Knock on wood its been good lately, but it sucks down a G note or three a year.

I should have bought an S600!

As they used to say on Wide World of Sports..."the agony of da' feet."

Long as we're going down this path, I'll jump aboard>
Yeah, there's always those that are happy with whatever brand you look at. Heck, I've known people that actually LIKED the old AMC Gremlins
When I was shopping around, I used Edmunds.com alot. I'd find a year/make/model I was interested in, and jump over there and read thru the "Readers reviews". Example, I found a 2002 C320 with decent miles, and about the right price. Out of a dozen or so of those "Readers Reviews", only 2 of them claimed no problems. The rest were literally a list of probs and issues. Sounded too close to Audis. Sorry. I need a better record of reliabilty than that. My years on this forum alone had pretty well scared me away from a newer model Benz anyway. I just don't have deep enough pockets to take a chance. I'm gambling enough on this Lexus. One major issue will about wipe me out right now.
Then there was that '96 Chrysler Cirrus I had a few years ago.........

As has been pointed out elsewhere in this thread...most of the time you only hear from the people with an ax to grind.

I can't the only lucky person in the world who owns trouble-free, newer Benzes.

BTW, AMC made some great cars!

You might as well hang out here Rick. How much fun are you going to have on a Lexus forum!

Very true. A lot of Lexus owners are a bit prissy, and you'll be subjected to a lot of frivolous pedantic whining and metrosexual angst. Not at all like the substantive pedantic whining found around here.

Last Sunday I helped get my buddy's '69 AMC Rebel SST out of storage. He bought it an old car auction about 12 yrs ago for $2500. It needs a little brake and front end work, other than that it's a reliable old beast.

Pour a little gas down the carb and she starts right up after sitting for 6 months.

The thing has glass packs so it's really loud. We were driving through a tunnel (I was driving his Jeep Cherokee SRT8 Hemi) and we both opened them up. Rolled down the windows and the sound put would put a gaggle of Harleys to shame.

btw: That Jeep is very fast, sounds just like an old muscle car. Apparently he's taken a few new Audi S4 owners to task. Tons of those cars in Minneapolis.
