Howdy kmaysob,
I've had a couple pair of Red Wings, nice boots. But the next time a "Boot truck" comesto my work place I might go back to Dr. Martins. For me a much more comfortable boot.

I had one set of Red Wing boots that were the most comfortable footware I've ever owned. I've gotten two more pairs since then, but they haven't been near as comfortable as the first pair.

My dad worked for Union Oil his whole working career, and Red Wing were the only boots that Union Oil (aka Unocal) would pay for.

I have two pairs of Red Wings: a black leather shoe with a crepe wedge sole, and a pair of dark brown boots.

They are the most comfortable boots I've ever worn.

Another good thing about Red Wings is that they will oil your boots for free for life. You just drop them off at the Red Wing shoe store, and few days later they're done.

The only boot for me. Hiking, hunting, work, three days at Disneyland, casual... the only boot for me. The only downside is it seems like everytime I find a pair I really like style-wise, they get discontinued. Last time it happened I had my local store round up all of the remaining pairs in my size they could find and I bought them. But in another two years I'll probably be out of boots and be forced to look for new ones again. But I'll be looking at Red Wing most certainly.

Howdy All,
For non-working boots without steel toe I go with Mephisto.

I've known a couple machinists that wear these:

They say those are the most comfortable shoes they've ever worn. But it's hard to find a dealer nearby.

In Texas, I think they give you a pair of RedWings when you get your voter ID - everyone (I mean EVERYONE) has a pair. I do too; had a pair "on hand" since the early 90s.

YES! Buy Red Wing! Hey I'm partial to Minnesota, what can I say. I used to have a pair of steel toes I used for ice carving. Never got to use the steel toes, but my chef had his foot broken when a block of ice fell on his foot.

I like 4 inch stiletto heels. They're not very comfortable, but I make lots of friends with them.

I used to go through a pair of Timberlands, etc. every 6 months or so when I worked in factories. I changed to RedWings and they lasted 3-4 years and could be re-soled. The negatives to 'Wings are mine liked to mildew up badly and always smelled musty. I worked in a damp environment. The insole/arch support is junk. Custom orthotics are highly recommended if you spend your life standing on concrete.

Now I'm in construction and prefer a hiking type boot for climbing, roofing, framing, etc. More flexibility, better ankle support, better traction. Ecco makes a fantastic boot, they wear like iron and are very comfortable if not odd looking and expensive. Currently wearing a set of Dunham's that have lasted a year of construction abuse. Cheaper than Ecco and proving to be pretty durable. RT

Most of the people I work with, swear by them. They also have a nice warranty - which appears to explain their prices.
