I also wish to visit Europe for a few weeks.

I love the US of A but it would be nice to get away from all the politic BS going on ever here.

Cool trip! I want to get to Europe, one day.
Thank you, and thank you!

I also decided to delete a post of mine, as it contained some sort of stain that I couldn't, in good concience, leave for my fellow members to see.

I really did have a good time...seeing the hills again, literally brought tears to my eyes. As soon as I resize some pics, or remember my hosting name and account - it's been a while since I've used it.

I'd love to find a euro 560SEL to get all the front end parts!

Sorry I missed it. I did see a handful, but not very many. Mostly I saw them in Heidelberg, and on the A5, between Heidelberg and Frankfurt. I did get passed by one on the B38, but caught up to him at a light. I also saw one or two in Weinheim.
The trouble is these cars are rather large for a good amount of the roads there. I couldn't begine to imagine having to drive around with a W126 or W140 - I think the W220 is a little smaller, but still large compared to the majority of cars there.

The cul-de-sac that I was on, had one C180 and one A class (I forget what model). There are only 12 houses on our street there, so that is a nice ratio. Just around the corner from there, I spotted a W123 280CE. It was in Rimbach that I saw the W126 SEC (it was for sale). There was a C220D for sale with about 161k km for sale for €7000 including a new catalyst and soot filter (500 less w/o new cat and filter).

I would be tempted to call a junkyard over there, find someone that speaks English (a good probability) and see how much for what you need. Whatever they tell you in Euro, add about 30% to come up with a $ amount.

I happen to take this picture. I still had over 2k rpm's to go before redline. Might have been even more than that, as I don't remember if I took this pic before or after I realized I had forgotten about 6th gear.

I did go a little faster than that a few days before, when I was running late coming back from Heidelberg. There were a few cyclist in the way for a few km's....once they moved, I had about 2 mins of 180kph. Had I been more sure of when my exit was coming up, I might have gone faster.
The Opel gave no signs of nearing the end of its capabilities.

OK...now, I feel like a dummy... the car I rented was a Vectra, not an Astra. With my luck, they won't bring this model over here.

180kph on the autobahn? Thats nothing! I do faster than 120mph in a 55 zone

Their is no way a 300SD can do 120mph, your speedo is wrong or its one heck of a hill. The engine would be turning like 6k!

Probably more like 105-110.
