Give it time. If the bidders know what they're doing they won't bid 'til the last 30 seconds or less anyway. If you're going to be home when it ends, sit and hit "reload" repeatedly and see how quickly the bids (may) go up (if your opening bid is below market, that is -- I have no idea what these cars are worth). Did you try some of the Porsche owners forums or Hemmings Motor News? Good luck with the sale in any case!

Oh, and yes, eBay is addictive. I check it several times a day when I'm selling, too!

Intellectually, I'm also curious what a "brand-new" 22 year old Porsche is worth.

Unfortunately, I've also got a garage space riding on this, so it's more than intellectual interest.

The bad news is it is not a true Ruf, it has no engine mods - all cosmetics. Plus a low mileage P car is a liability since these things need to be driven or things fall apart. I would rather buy one with 30k and know it was taken car of properly.

It would most likely be okay though, but is probably viewed as a garage queen, but not rare or old enough to be a true collectors item.

Alan, if it doesn't fly this go-around, it might be because it's not drivable at this moment, which can scare off potential buyers. Have you determined how much it would cost to correct the mechanical issues? Is it a reasonable expectation that you could recoup this by commanding a stronger price?

Needing work or not, still 2K miles means the parts are mint and justifies the $25K...ish price tag. Then again, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I would also suggest you put the mileage in the title as it's the most important selling factor.

For those of you dying to know, we went into extra innings, but lost 8-6 on a monster walkoff homerun. Didn't get the rain delay.

My starting pitcher, the only girl in our entire league - and a 10 year old at that (in a league of mostly 11's and 12's), succumbed to the pressure. Our usually reliable infield spit the bit and gave away a bunch of runs.

About 100 people had it on watchlist, 3245 total views, and a paucity of bids (3 actual bidders).

So as soon as my wife & MIL decide what $$$ they will accept, we'll talk to the emailers. A number of people said, if it doesn't sell, let's talk.


I wonder if people were turned off by the hidden reserve. I don't bid on things that have a reserve, because the concept turns me off. However it seems to be popular with the higher value items.

But go figure .... a Detroit muscle car from the 60's-70's in fair condition, original sticker $5K, goes for 6 figures.

My money, personally, I go with the German iron.

get a buyer for it and get a 6.9

I was wondering about the best way to go with a reserve (my SD officially goes on Ebay this weekend....finally). I haven't done enough buying on Ebay to have much of an opinion. My brother does alot of buying and selling on there though, and he's pretty much of the same opinion as you. If ya want a reserve price, post it, or forget it. But a friend at work has sold a few cars, and he claims if ya list the reserve price, people will wait until the last few minutes of the auction before they bid, and you end up losing money.
