Just to add, India took in millions of refugees, far more than any other nation, after the creation of Pakistan it was Hindu refugees, then after the creation of East Pakistan, it was more Hindu refugees, now 60 million economic Muslim refugees from Bangladesh are here testing our patience, lots of them are Islamist militants as well, yet there is never an ounce of Xenophobia, now that US is getting immigrants of a different color than the norm, legal or illegal, I can see huge flags of Xenophobia being waved in name of patriotism. India absorbs poor from its neighbors, there are people from Nepal crossing over daily and making it their land, since thousands of years, we have taken in Jews, non Muslim Persians and many more, still there was no complaint. As for India being a cohesive nation, Ashoka the great ruled from Indonesia to Uzbekistan, thats as big an empire as the great Roman one and he was the one to spread Buddhism to other parts of Asia including Japan. The fact that Thailand, Cambodia, Bali still practice Hinduism speaks of the impact of Indians in Asia.
