I think even in a Benz, one false move above 80 and you are probably toast. Of the two times I had my MB above 120, one was the day I bought it and it had just left the dealer (bought it from an individual, but he agreed to have the dealer straighten some issues out for me). I drove it on a stretch of I 20 on a clear day and held 120 for about......30 seconds

The second time I did it was driving down out of the mountains of Chattanooga, TN and it was almost like looking down a roller coaster for about 3 mi. Creeped past 125 for a minute, thought about my wife asleep next to me and don't think I have been over 100 since.

Not even in my Bugatti Veyron. Or my dad's Blackhawk.

It doesn't mean that it is a guarantee that I'd be off the hook if I got caught though. I just got a ticket for "Right on red" a few weeks ago, in Hamden, at 03:00am. I even stopped at the thing as if it were a stop sign, and saw nobody coming, so I pulled out. He gave me a ticket. Just got the wrong cop, on the wrong night. If it had been one of my buddies though, I guarantee they wouldn't even have bothered to stop me to begin with. Can't win them all, but knowing more, increases your odds of course. I never said I was impervious to penalty, just got the majority on my side, so I worry a whole lot less.

Yes, but the roads we're discussing up here in Ct. are not half as hazardous as the ones you have out that way. You guys have regular interstates out that way that have serious turns, etc. Even our "worst" here, is not as dangerous as your "Average" road out there. We've got it easy compared to the area you're talking about.

I sometimes inadvertently cruise up to 100 - 110 mph in my SDL when coming off an on-ramp.

After realizing (OOOPS!) I relax it a bit and cruise at 80 - 85 mph. Getting to 110 mph is uneventful (engine is silent, torque is consistently strong). If you don't pay attention to your speed you could get into trouble.

Its like the turbo whisks you away, and the engine develops a mind of its own.

Shucks, I won't even take the Gulf Stream above 110... you never know whats up around that curve in the earth, and the brakes on that thing don't work too well once it gets airborne.

Oh, I thought we were talking about stuff we drove ourselves. Now if my pilot or chauffeur gets a little froggy, they are professionals so you know.....

But........150 mph?? NFW.

Yeah I run on the Merritt all the time, and there are a couple stretch's between Milford and Trumbull that you could get going pretty good if there are no cars around, but you would have to slow right down. It wasn't designed for such speeds, so anything over 80-90 requires a lot of concentration and a pretty good car.

150mph on the Merritt? NFW, a Porsche Carrera GT tried that awhile ago and got smashed up. The GT can spank any AMG MB, except maybe a CLK GTR.

If you had something really hot, and the road was closed, like a Carrera GT or an F40, or an F1 car, you might be able to average 100 through the coners, but you will be on the edge even for those cars.

My buddy saw an Indy car on the Merritt a few years ago. Got on in Greenwich, screamed past him and got right off, no plates or anything.

I've seen an indy car a few times around that area at car shows, and cruise nights. I guess a trailer is more trouble than it's worth for the guy to load the car on and off. I used to drive the mile and a half distance down Whitney ave. (route 10) to a local cruise night every week in my Nova, which was entirely a drag car. That's just a little street, and no highway involved. Nver even got more than 35 miles per hour with lights and traffic either. Not really advisable to drive an indy car on a highway though. It's way to obvious, but we never can tell who the guy is, or knows. He could have been the chief of state police or something, in which case, he's coated in teflon..
