arthroscopic knee surgery

Q for those who've done this:

Had it done a few hrs ago. I've been on my feet, walked the dogs, putzed around the house etc. No pain due to oxycodone. Yeah, I know dumb- but I'm an OCD'er.

I missed worked today and am supposed to lay low tomorrow as well.

If I take the knee elevated and iced rest of the day, would I be a fool to go into work tomorrow? I understand swelling could be an issue and cause problems in the coming days.

O.K. in my "mom voice" WT* are you doing?????? Your going to undue all that was done. I'm not a doctor i just play one on t.v. they should have sent you home with your knee wrapped in a polar care wrap that keeps cool water on the knee. It needs to be iced for at least a week and do not walk on it. Where are your post-op instructions? When is your follow up appointment? Physical therapy appointment? Glad you made it out of surgery o.k.

Yip, follow the doctors orders there are many degrees of surgery some you walk the next day others require rehab.

If work involves sitting at a desk all day, you could give it a try I suppose. If it requires a substantial amount of activity, I'd probably chill at home for the rest of the week. If it was anything like my knee scope, I was walking on it 2 -3 days post-op per doctor's instructions.

It will hurt a lot more tomorrow, BTDT. You will be a much happier person if you keep it iced and keep it elevated. That will reduce the swelling, and less swelling is the key to faster recovery. Taking it easy the first weekend is an investment, you'll get it back many times over in the next few weeks.

No desk work. A lot of driving (short trips to dealers). Walk around car lots, shoot the ***** with sales mgrs etc. I don't detail cars, just pay the bills, some sales and customer relations. On my feet about 98% of the work day.

My directions are to keep L leg elevated and iced every 4 hrs. Weight bearing as tolerated. He wrote for crutches as well, which are a pia.

No PT, just some exercises when the bandages come off -- follow up app't next week.

I hear ya (sort of ) Mistress. Mom (and wifey) are nurses, so told me to follow the Doc orders. Duh..

They made incisions on both side of the knee and another behind to take care of a ganglionic cyst. Small, but annoying.

My main issue that as a new biz owner, I'm paranoid about leaving the shop "alone". Fortunately, the employees are all competent, motivated and don't need direction. My clients all know the situation, but I still worry a lot.

Maybe I can run the show from home, keep customers happy and explain that I'm still out. (Thinking out loud). Perhaps Doc orders are on the extreme side of caution, maybe not. Ack!

I'm just a stubborn patient... as you mentioned, tomorrow may give me a dose of reality and humility.

Yeah, swelling is the issue. If things go awry, they'll have to drain it and the healing process will be set back.

Look at the bright side, you get six days off for the price of three (three-day weekend coming up). I think I'd just bite the bullet and take the long-term view. The activity you described would be absolutely abusive right now.

Thinking along the same lines. If the cuttings don't heal and you have to go back in for an infection, you'll miss alot more time out and possibly have to have a second surgery, then clean up for scar tissue, ect.....

Follow doctors orders is my best advice.

However.........I've had arthroscopic surgery on both knees. Each time to remove a meniscus tear. The latest one was done by a sports oriented orthopaedic surgeon who's mantra is "let pain be your guide." With those orders, I walked out of the day hospital the day of surgery and ran a (slow) mile on day 7.

Joan Benoit-Samuelson WON the first US Women's Marathon Trial 17 days after arthroscopic knee surgery. I've met her and she is tough. Look up the word in the dictionary. You'll see her picture there.

Good luck in your recovery and don't push it.

^^^ Thanks for the info. That's a quick recovery.

Of course it depends on the person, everyone heals differently. I'm in decent shape, so things should go well if orders are followed. They removed a ganglionic cyst, which added a third incision in the back of the knee. We'll see how that affects recovery.

New tires for my bike? I'll be around all day tomorrow.
Maybe goto Sears and look at their latest MB/BMW offering.
