I have several friends and my brother's 2 BIL's and FIL are all officers and they do expect favors if pulled over (mainly speeding related-they expect about a 20mph cushion) and reciprocate in return. I've never seen (or heard about) them not get out of a ticket and have witnessed it first hand on a couple ocassions. It's usually just a matter of handing their badge over with their license and registration.

With the city and town officers it's common practice, but state troopers don't abide by the same code and rookies may not be aware of the practice yet.
