A friend of mine had a black 2006 S500 and does a lot of driving on NYS interstates. The car was a superb ticket magnet. I told him that it would be a very good idea to find a lower profile car when his lease was up. Well, he took my advice and just leased a black-on-black 2008 S550, with just 80 more horsepower. I give him six months before the state of New York forces him to become a passenger/pedestrian.

Anyone want to be a chauffeur?

65-70 is extraordinarily dangerous in this car, as it feels as if it is standing still and the unwary could open the door, step out, and kill themselves.

Well its an S, that's just off idle for them. Whats the engine turning 1,200?


How was his 06? The early W220's are getting into striking distance for me. Seems I can swing an 01-02.

I got pulled over not to long ago for speeding. Luckily my girlfriend was with me and she called her dad who is a cop and he got those guys to let me go. I didn't ask her too though as I know I should pay for it because I was guilty. I'll take a break though. I have been lucky too as the other day I was hauling assfault and got stuck behind an excursion doing 70 in the fast lane. I saw an older beemer fly by and I wanted to show him up naturally, but as I was gonna swing into another lane I saw a cop on the shoulder. A minute later he was speeding by and a little later he had pulled over that beemer. So I thanked that slowpoke excursion for being slow and saving my butt.

Drivetrain was perfect, but the rest of the car was the electronic version of a death-of-a-thousand cuts. The car had under 20k on the odometer when traded in and always had some sort of electrical fault present during the lease. There was almost always some fault indicator lit up on the dash.

The salesman swore that those issues were recognized and defeated for the new S-Class. Time will tell.

Shame on you for even thinking such a thing! Not THAT many breaks come along in life. ALWAYS take them gratefully . . . .

Yeah they are nice, but at $5 a gallon I don't want to fill the tank. Thinking about a more practical yet much less sexy engine. M104 or 4.2L M119.

They are so tempting though! Lets see I drive 15k miles a year so if I drive the SDL for the summer and the S600 for the winter, fuel burn won't be that bad!
