Even my "Toyota" has potential issues. Here's a fun one I just found out about. Lower ball joints like to kinda fail at around 80k miles. (This is a pic of a guys car on the Lexus forum, not mine)
So, what ya do? Buy what ya like, take yer chances I guess.

Wow thats kind of serious, I'd change them ASAP!

My theory is in general owning a car is an expensive PITA. So I rather enjoy the expensive PITA, and I like the ones with stars on the hood. So what if they break, thats why you have two!

That's exactly why I always own at least 3 vehicles. One breaks, we're not stuck hitching rides.

Lexus forum? What do you guys talk about? Other than leather seat repair, and what the diagnostic computer said was wrong, of course.

I once visted a Toyota forum, all the kids scared me away! They talk about, well I'm not sure what, a whole lot of nothing.

See its a good thing MB's need maintenance! It creates this wonderfull forum!

Heck the Rolls Royce crowed even has a term for break downs they are called, "a failure to proceed". Why doesn't the MB crowed have such a saying? Because they break less then RR probably.

It's really a rather quiet forum. One reason I keep hangin' here I suppose Even the "Open" forum there is like watching grass grow in winter. Maybe just a little more exciting than watching paint dry. The GS300/GS400 forum has a little activity, but mostly "What rims look good" and "how do you replace the subwoofer amp", stuff like that

I've heard a few horror stories about Rollers. In fact, I think we had a thread about them here a couple years back. I guess if you can afford one in the first place, a broken hydrostatic reeberstator is no big deal. Just take the Jag instead.

"Failure to proceed"
That's awesome!!

Yes, I can see it now: Toyotashop.com Thread headings

Check engine light: computer says o2 sensor, is my car going to explode?
Plastic door handle snaps off: Glue Solutions?
Which body kit looks best on an 89 corolla?

I only needed a short ride to get hooked on them. They make the S class feel like a Honda! Everyone should experiance a proper RR at least once.

Actualy when I went to one a few years ago, because I had a Camry at the time failing engines were a hot topic. The Toyota oil sludge issue was still being sorted. You should have seen the threads.

Even the Lexus SUV's had V6's blowing up.

probably because they don't do anything to maintain them, kind of like a whole forum of 240 joes.

You have the replace the timing belt at 100k on the RX300, a $2000 job at the dealer, most people just skip it and sell the car. Hence so many 100,000-120,000 ones for sale. Some poor sap buys it, then boom!

Toyota uses chains now, at least my moms Rav4 has one. I don't know how recent this is.

Do a google search of "Toyota Sludge", its a well known problem Toyota screwed up. It didn't matter what you did the engines would fail. 30k mile engines that had there oil changed every 3k were failing.

Yeah, I've heard about that on the Lexus forum too. My GS has basically the same straight-6 as a Supra, and they have the issue too. But synth oil is supposed to help, so I went over to the dark side and am using synth oil in it.

The sad thing is, with "today's" car buyer, 50K is onto the 2nd (or 3rd) owner. That's why the "initial quality" is pumped so hard. The manufacturers don't exactly have people like us in mind when the build them anymore. Engineered obsolescence is key these days.
