Jeez...
Lance, my B-I-L, was supposed to come up last night and help me today and tomorrow installing the ceiling lumber in the cabin. He called yesterday afternoon and reported that he was unable to move his left hand or fingers. Emergency appointment with the neurologist today at 11:00...this in addition to the chronic back pain he's already experiencing.
He lists about 500-750 items a week on eBay and types fast enough to make Mavis Bacon look like a beginner so, he is basically out of business now. I've never met anyone with worse luck than that man and the list of **** that's happened to him is as long as your arm. Damn, it doesn't even seem like the deities are listening because, when I was in Warsaw last fall, Sharon (my sis-in-law) and I were at the Holy Cross Church on Krakowskie Przedmiescie Street (Chopin's heart is in one of the pillars there) and spotted an altar with a place to pray to St Jude (patron saint of lost and hopeless causes). I bought a candle for Lance, got down on my knees, prayed and even plopped down 50 Zloty to sweeten the pot. Something just isn't right.

Look,it's an immutable law of nature that brothers-in law are absolutely useless, noisome troglodytes.
Just accept it for what it is and if dear wife sez"so-and-so can help you,I'll call him",then YOU feign incapacity. I know,I've been there. My BIL pushes carts at a supermarket, acts like he owns the place.Guess who subsidises his admittedly scant lifestyle? 50 Zloty,eh Polska?train him for the Beijing Olympics, why don'cha, put him on the Polish fencing team.....A little chain-link will do his hands wonders.......Yakshi masch! |

Sorry to hear that. I hope his condition is a passing one.
Speaking of your cabin, how's that coming, Randy? You were posting pictures of it for a while, but I haven't seen any lately.

I try to never take my good health for granted. Losing that really sucks. The older I get, the more I realize this.

And, believe it or not, in between the braces on everyone of those trusses is a small piece of lumber that gives you a place to attach the small piece of sheetrock hiding the hole between the braces in the vertical part of the wall. An architect would have known to have the truss shop attach it when they manufactured the trusses. I'm no architect so, I got to stand on the scaffold, measure each one, cut it and nail it in, make a little piece of sheetrock et al, ad nausaeum... Anyway, my painters made my crappy sheetrock job look like a dream...you wouldn't believe what those joints in the clerestory looked like before Ricardo arrived. And, he did a good job of making my furr down look uniform as well. The plumbing in the shower took me most of the day to install.

BIL update...
BIL went to the doc yesterday. Had a MRI to confirm that it wasn't a stroke...it wasn't. Dr. seems to think he slept with that wrist cocked around weird and must have injured the nerves. No permanent damage, 4-6 weeks to recover.
Whew...

OK, here's some of what was started and done yesterday...the tile guys started work in the shower hanging the Hardiebacker and got to doing some tile before they left last night.
The ceiling is done in that thin knotty pine veneer wood that's generally used as wainscoting or paneling. That's the stuff that BIL was going to cut for me while I was on the scaffold. Since he had to call in sick every one of those sonofa*****in' sticks represents at least one trip up and down the ladder (Friday night, my left knee was killing me). And, to top it off, I misfigured and didn't buy enough of the raw stock so now, I have to buy more, stain and varnish it then, roll a Baker scaffold over my new floor and install the damned things. I'd have to go back up there anyway to trim-out around the trusses and the walls but I was really hoping not to have to screw with that paneling any more. But, on the good side, it looks exactly like I envisioned it would (wood). All in all, I'm pretty friggin' stoked about getting this little hut finished. By mid-week, I should be able to set the toilet and start hanging cabinets.

My goal...
...is to at least be able to sleep in the hut by the time Bride returns on the 7th from her Austria-Bulgaria-Poland trip.
I may just be able to do it.
