On the Bay, you can no longer have open containers unless at anchor The Coasties would never cite me for that, but VMRC would in a heartbeat. I got checked this wkd. on the water by a complete ***** (and subsequently had a conversation with a Coastie about the block ice and beer situation at the Boatel, on an alt channel of course) and then by the shift change of the same damn boat back at the ramp (had to haul the boat to take it to service). Its kind of been that way since the 10-year rockfish moratorium ended. With 19" flounder minimum for this year and 32" for Cobia, I expect another moratorium or two are coming.

I know the cops who patrol around here so they don't usualy bother me. The coasties don't care less, I don't beleive their are any open container laws around here. I know they have seen me drinking and driving a boat enough to get me for it if their was.

It's one of those deals where if they feel like getting you for it they can. There's no "open container" law in CT per se, even while driving a car, but it comes with the caveat that you can't be seen consuming it. Once you're observed under suspicion of BUI/DUI it's another matter. Although now that I think of it, that may have changed recently. I'll have to check into it.

I generally save my drinking for the dock or anchor but will enjoy one under way, dressed in a koozie, if the mood strikes.

The only SABB I've ever worked on was a 10-12hp coupled to a SailDrive. At some point in the past, a hammer-mechanic screwed-up the raw water pump housing and it would periodically eat impellers. 20 minutes and some crocus cloth would have fixed it but alas no,....a neat little engine ultimately destroyed by overheating.

Thats what I thought.

Passangers can drink in a car in CT, I know I have worked to kill a 6 pack on the way to the camp ground.

Yeah, you guys are like one of 5 or 6 states left that have no open container law. Louisiana even kind of has one now.

That's terrible. I want to put a temp gage on mine at some point. I put a 20 year old (maybe older) but new in box fuel filter in mine and it disintegrated, and apparently clogged something up. I am going to replace the fuel lines when I get back up there and if that doesn't fix it, mothball it for the summer until I get it back to my mechanic.

The meter will run fast on that...I wouldn't doubt the IP will need to be pulled and magic incantations said repeatedly over the parts by diesel injection shop wizards.

A. They wouldn't be able to get to it for a month, B. I would be putting a $10K boat in the yard with $1M+ boats in Deltaville, VA. The repair could easily exceed the cost of the boat.

Why not repower with a 1 or 2GM? If you do some of the work yourself you can keep the cost down.

Yeah but you can't get parts for it, cheaply at least. Ebay it.

Thats surprising, does Saab even import those engines anymore?

If it got fuel filter parts in the IP it probably just needs to be cleaned, shouldn't be to hard to do as long as you can get the parts you need.

Saab = cars and airplanes
SABB = marine diesels

Two totally different breeds of cat. FWIW, SABB produces most of the world's lifeboat engines. Sabb OTH, makes some of the world's weirdest cars.
