First Cadillac CTS-V performance test published
First Cadillac CTS-V performance test published
The CTS-V ran the quarter-mile in a scant 12.5 seconds, besting the 12.7 it takes for either the BMW M5 or the Mercedes E63 AMG. Getting back to a standstill was another hit to the Bimmer and the Benz, with the Caddy stopping from 60-0 mph in 109 feet – five feet less than it takes the M5 and six shorter than the AMG. And if you're thinking that brakes and power are easy to upgrade and that the Cadillac couldn't possibly best the Germans on the handling course, think again: the CTS-V ran the slalom at 71.1 mph, while the M5 and E63 ran it in 68.5 and 65 mph respectively. |

I always knew that Americans can make good fast cars. The corvette proves this. The problem with the vette that is that it addresses handling by throwing out any sort of dampening ability so it's quite a horrible car to drive on regular roads.
I have to wonder if this one is as nice to drive on a regular road as it is on a track.

Question is how long would it last? Would it stay solid after 10 years like MB and BMW does?

The early ones had problems with the diff blowing, and extreme wheel/axle hop, but they ironed out the issues by 2006 or so. Also they fitted extremely sticky tires that wear out in 10K miles that people love to complain about.

Doesn't the CTS-V have a Corvette engine in it? I thought I read that somewhere. Cadillac has really impressed me with their latest generation of cars. I love the way they look. I knew they were on the right track when they began using Led Zepplin music in their commercials!

Makes you wonder what Munich and Stuttgart will come up with next?

I'd hope by now, GM has learned to play with the suspension rather than huge tires and rock hard shocks ala 80-90's F bodies, Vettes and any other performance version of their mundane sedans (Z24,Z34,etc)....

My first car in HS was a T/A with W56 suspension, that thing would skittle over ruts in the road even when dry with stock Goodyear Eagle.

I had read in a recent Car & Driver magazine that the Caddy's handling was honed on the Nordschlief track at the Nurburgring, and it posted times that outran the M5. One more impressive stat after the other. If the car is that fast, I'd love to see what The Stig could do with it on Top Gear.

Having said that, neither my '05 c-class, with 47,000 miles, nor my '82 TD with 181,000 miles, buzz or rattle from within the cabin. (well, the hardened 26 year old seat belt buckle plastic does squeak occassionally...but who could realistically find fault there) Nice car though; I'd consider it.

Yes Tom, an LS6 from a Z06 Corvette, rated at 405 hp. Responds very well to forced induction, and I don't mean Lance.
