They won then because of Jimmy Johnson and because he was Jones's friend. Jones still managed to f*ck it up within 5 years though.
Snyder will never win, and Jones will never win again.

How can you or anyone guarantee that when you say "never"? Never is a long time. Anything can happen these days in the NFL.

They won because they had players...many of whom they drafted with picks they got when they traded Hershel Walker to Minnesota in 89, including Emmett Smith in 90 and Russell Maryland in 91.
Johnson knew talent tho. Irvin was alredy there. He drafted Aikman, Daryl Johnson and Mark Stepnoski in 89. He drafted a bunch of other starters too.

Switzer won with Johnson's players..one year. Otherwise he, Campo, Chan Gailey, and this guy Wade aren't tall timber, imo.
The one talented coach he had besided Johnson...Parcells.... put up with him (and TO) long enough to make the team a contender, then left.

Successful coaching begins with personnel. Successful personnel have character, imo. Aikman and Emmet Smith had it. Dallas' character people have mostly moved on....coaches and players.

Jerrah Jones' is engaged with Plaxico the gunfighter, and Vick the dogfighter, for slots next year. Jones has never heard of an NFL convict he didn't want to re-habilitate by signing them. Romo, the accidental quarterback with the hurt pinkie, has run out of gas......Vick will get the Cowboy's back on track.

As others, I don't think any coach can make Dallas a winning team as long as Jerry Jones is calling the shots.
They don't have the draft picks or money under the salary cap to get personell.
The personnell they have now was supposed to get them to the superbowl anyway. I agree they just lack character.

Some fodder to fuel discussions until gametime. Once the games start all this conversation becomes meaningless.

Some PRO Ravens thoughts.
6th seed,, just like 2001 ( Ravens SuperBowl(tm) year
Playing Miami in first game, just like 2001
SuperBowl(tm) is in same city as in 2001.

Ravens have more starting players injured than anyone elsae, and still they win.
Ravens essentially lost their "bye" game due to the hurricane that hit Texas. Ravens have played every weekend since the end of Sept without a break.

Officiating for the playoffs HAS to be better than during the season where the Ravens were the objects of some of the worst calls, phantom calls, and illegal reversals of on-the-field calls in NFL history. Fair officiating HAS to favor the ravens. This is not to say that other teams did not get some bad calls. This has been a bad year for the officials.

2008 is the 50th anniversary of "The Greatest Game Ever Played". It was interesting to see that the living members of that 1958 Baltimore team came to Baltimore, rather than that other city in the midwest, to celebrate the anniversary, last Sunday.
Flacko even wears his hair like the Great Johnny U did. How can you beat that! Not to mention he shares the same unflappable demeanor, and great arm. Did you see that 55 yard throw into the wind that hit the reciever perfectly in stride?!

Go Ravens!!!!

They may get an argument from the Pats. I thought they were done after losing starters Tom Brady, Laurence Moroney, Rodney Harrison, Adalius Thomas & Pierre Woods, Tedy Bruschi for the last 2 games but they still ended up 11-5. Not good enough though.

They would have a better chance if they had home field advantage. I don't think Pittsburg or Miami will be too much trouble for them but they have to get past Tennessee, which won't be easy.
OK so Pittsburg won't be easy either!
Good luck!

That trade made the Vikings my #2 most hated team. You have to have good players, true, but guys like Cowher (who made it to the AFC Championship with Kordell Stewart) or Parcells can win with a lot less talent.

Parcells and Johnson are good examples of what I'm talking about. Jones just can't hang onto the good coaches because of his ego, so he gets the... short timber. Then he, like Snyder, just throw money at flashy players instead of letting personnel guys and coaches build the team.
That's why I can say never. Jones will never change, and his approach will never work. You can't field a bunch of prima donnas with no team cohesion while undermining your coach.

The Jones drought is equally as satifying as the
drought! Not enough bad football-related things can happen!

Home field would be nice, (sigh), but you have to earn that.

We lost to Pittsburgh (twice) and Tennessee by the slimmest of margins. ( I think under 10 points combined for all 3 losses.) The Ravens ( or at least their fans) believe that either team would be a good match-up. Not overconfident, but not fearful of either of those two. Indy still scares most people here. Manning seems to have the ravens' number.

Again, this is sportstalk--No intent to defame anyone--just supportive of "my" team.

...and there's Brooks... and Palmer and Quellar and McNally and Ripken and MaGregor and Flanagan and Eddie Murray. Man they had some players back then. I didn't particularly care for Weaver, but he was a HOF manager.. a winner. He was also able to get along with Palmer well enough that the team didn't suffer. Different times.

I think Philly has as good a chance of any team in the NFC.
They're favored over the Vikings. They beat the Jints three weeks ago. I don't know too much about Carolina, especially their defense.

I think the Colts may be the team to beat in the AFC.Peaking at the right time.
I've been waiting all year for Kerry Colllins to play like Kerry Collins, but I've always liked Jeff Fisher. Excellent coach. I'll put him in the afore mentioned Parcells-Cower league.
I don't think a rookie QB takes you all the way, esp. with a rookie coach. Sorry Baltimore. Miami leaves early.
So, for this weekend I like Baltimore, Atlanta (big), the Colts and Eagles. All home teams lose. Interesting.
