How's that??

GM is a ward of the state......and Coke is a profitable corporation.

The people out of work raked it in during the good times so if they didn't sock some of it away for possible lean times, how is it our fault?

If I were GM, I'd have Saturn, Chevy, GMC, and Cadillac for the American market. Saturn would be my AtoB brand, Chevy my Acura/BMW brand, GMC my truck brand, and Caddy my Jag/performance brand. The Corvette would move to Caddy, with a ~$15K or so price jump to cover the better quality. A Z06 would be priced comparatively with cars it competes with, like 911 turbos, etc.. Saturn would lose the roadster, which would become Chevy's new powerhouse. Chevy would also get a sport sedan, probably AWD. 2 entry level vehicles, one a sedan and one a smaller car, probably based off a Saturn, but with more amenities.
It's my understanding that Saturn is totally held by creditors, as is it's original Spring Hill Tn factory thats currently building the small chevy van-whatever it's called and this was planned this way because Saturn was always they're own seperate dealerships. GM can simply default on the loans and dont have to buy out the dealerships, so Saturn might survive into a second life owned by someone else.

Pontiac, and Oldsmobile, only had a handful of memorable cars, otherwise they were merely the Mercury or Plymouth divisions of GM.

The dealership buyout is just to use the Saturn name. Their plan is to not build cars and purchase existing vehicles from other manufactures and rebadge them.
If this goes through, you may see a Ford, Honda or Kia manufactured vehicle in their line up at the same time.

Hard to say. Take the Firebird I am familiar with. 81 was the last year of the true Firebird. After that, the Firebird was 90% the same as the Camaro. Now we have 2 divisions fighting for the same guy. WTF???

The older Pontiacs were just as good as other GM cars back then. Not sure when they really started going down... it depended on the model I guess. I have my grandmothers old 1973 Pontiac Grand Ville with the factory 455 engine (pictured below). I have have been driving this car for the past 7 years and the ONLY two problems I have had was the alternator (had rebuilt for $25) and a master cylinder ($17.00).... and ALOT of gas.

I also had a 1989 Pontiac Safari wagon (big model that had been made since '77) and it was a good car to, but it was a RWD V8 model as well.

(Btw, that box on the hood is brake pads for my Mercedes that it didnt need).

It's sad to see so many icons of our youth disappearing.

The last good car they made, IMO, was the 1972 Firebird, it was all downhill after that. The things that make me the saddest is the memory of my 1965 GTO that I had in high school. When you heard and felt that third two-barrel kick in on that 389 big block, there was no feeling like it, up to that time one of the most awesome stock cars ever built.

No it is not. Why do we need those icons? Move along. Find something else new. Note that nothing is permanent.
