Who is Vince?

Am I the only one here who remembers Ron Popiel?

I'm a salesman. Once, I thought I'd try raising the volume level on the phone to see if it resulted in more sales. It did bring an increase, only it was the hangups that increased . . . .

The tie-in was as you change adults from tall to small (sound level from Peak to Average) (and calling short people "midgets" is not PC, but "vertically challenged" is preferred)...that was the combined intent/joke...sorry it didn't carry well...read my signature...I ain't crackin' 6' feet in anyone's dreams!

What hurts/irritates peoples' auditory nerves is the SUSTAINED LEVEL of the volume...no dynamic range to let the nerves "rest" between the peaks...that's the reasoning of the 1 minute vs. 5 minutes of kids vs. adults and the government saying we'll lower the peak volume to any average volume...they're still allowing the compression/no rest-dynamic ranging to occur...therefore...5 minutes of 250#, 6' adults or 5 minutes of 120#, 4' VC individuals...some choice...I'll take 1 minute of 30#-40# kids with the attention span of ice cream in a cone on a hot July afternoon...

Think of it this way - when you came out of a concert (when you were younger), how well did you hear the people you were with? It took a while before everyone was talking in normal tones and actually understanding what was being said. You were inside, locked next to > +120dB. speakers about 10' from your face...it's a wonder HULU hasn't called you yet for your contribution of syrup for their ice cream sundaes...

The same type of damage goes on when you listen to any of the Top-40 radio stations or any of the stations playing music in the big cities...go across the dial and listen for about 10-15 minutes to each station...same volume (about) and there's a "something" about the station that after a few minutes, it has you gripping the wheel a bit with your fists...it's your inner ears telling you to either change the channel, turn that "*hit down!!!" or kill something...

And television is doing the same thing to old and young alike...all for the sake of a few bucks...

But hey! I work in the business...what the hell do I know?

Say this about the guy. He was effective. Got me hooked on OxiClean, which I had never heard of before a few years ago.

I'm wondering, does that epoxy miracle thingy "Mighty Putty" he pitched actually work as advertised? Just stick it on a leaky pipe and presto, it's fixed? Or shape into the handle of a coffee cup? Anyone try that stuff? He was pushing a three fer the other night.

Funny that he was a pitch man in Atlantic City...as was Ed McMahon in earlier times...and that they both died so close together.

Jeff must be a heck of a tough guy to have starred in "Earth Girls are Easy", and still be able to show his face in public.

RIP Billy. Seemed like a genuine, down-to-earth guy who worked for everything he had.

First Neeson's wife, now Billy Mays. I'm afraid to bump my head on anything now.
