The profile was clearly silouetted by the rising sun. I noted the slender nose, the four swiftly moving legs and the outstreched tail. I was unable to determine the exact color and so was a little unsure of the species of the beast....

I was unsure whether it was a Shrew or a Mouse.

No kidding.

But it was a glorious day, the autocross course was to my liking and to my car's liking and I took home the plastic.

If you were here, it would have been a mongoose.

Cute commercial, but irresponsible. Folks die trying to avoid dogs and such. Not me.

I saw a rat scampering across this morning. I usually average seeing a deer a month on my morning drive....

Today on my way back from the autocross in Terre Haute I drove past a place that has a small lake on each side used by farmers to water their cattle. I drive by this place at least twice a month pretty much year round.

Today I saw something which I have never seen before. A Mink crossed the road in front of my truck!

Are they rare in the wild or is it just that I have never seen one before?

I think they are fairly rare still. I think with price of pelts down, there are less people trapping. That is part of the reason you see more cyotes, skunks, ratcoons, foxes etc. I notice more foxes, than say a decade ago. I did see a mink a few years back in PA. It was on the Elk stream, near State College. It had a small trout in its mouth. I think I caught 20 trout on that stream that day. Mostly small, a few 12-14 inchers though.
I think the Fisher cat is also refered to as a pole cat.
