I have two of the MINI MAGLITE LED AA MAG INSTRUMENT with the belt holsters...fantastic...

You can hold 'em in your mouth (no-gag mini-mag), and the light intensity is amazing for the distance you clearly see with it...I've been able to "out-pace" a skunk in my front yard to my front door...just 'cause I was able to see where he was before I got out of the truck...

I "upgraded" my 2D-cell MAGLITE to LED about a year ago...at first it takes a little getting used to the different version of "white" light you're seeing...but after you've been using it for a while, going back to bulbs seems a bit too "yellow" for my liking...

One other thing you might want to look at doing though...

Get yourself a "hands-free" strap-on-your-forehead (or other body part) type of LED light...particularly if you need both hands and you don't quite like the idea of sticking something in your mouth after you've pitch-forked a wagon-load of cow-chit and wrestled a few calves and horses away from a farmgate. I carry a dual-light (white/red) headband style in my vehicles...and the batteries stay fresh for a long time in all of 'em...

When I am working on something in the dark and need a flashlight the light that I get from an LED light does not work for me. There is something about that light that makes it hard to see detail so I prefer a regular flashlight. The one thing I found when buying a light is to get one that is stable when you stand it on end so you can aim it where you need when your under a car. I have an old Rayvac that takes 4 D cells but has them side by side instead of in line so it is real stable on its base. I would buy a few more of them but they don't make that model any more.

Honestly, I loose flashlights before I destroy them. For a buck each including batterys, I checked to see if it worked and then threw them both in my glovebox.

Good output, cheap. Cheap...

I ended up with a set of those last Christmas....and lemme tell you, they are not worth the $$ at all, no matter the price. They are cheaaap. One was flaky right away, and the other died after a few months of very occasional use. They're extra junky. And, not very bright either. Its just a bunch of cheap white LED's soldered to a circuit board, no real lens or light direction.

Fantastic, at a fair price. I'm going to order one as soon as I figure out which model I want.

I bought a Fenix as a gift for someone recently. It wasn't the top shelf light, though it wasn't cheap either. I paid about $50 bucks for a double AA cell model. I loaded it up with the Lithium batteries thinking they were the best power for the unit.

I was so disappointed when they open the gift. Their response was "Oh, it's a Maglight". So much for my technical savvy. I should have spent $15 bucks on them, and bought a Fenix for myself.

Yeah its one of those things that unless you know about gear it will go right over their head.

Fenix is a heck of a lot cheaper than Surefire. I want to get a light for my Sig carbine as well and Surefire is kind of pricey! Between the optics and light I'm going to be at 50% of the purchase price!
