Surefire; expensive, but great. I have the E2L (2EL?) outdoorsman model with the LED bulb. I love it, and so do the kids when they go out to pee in the dark when camping

Need an awesome one eh? Takes 90 seconds to charge it and gives 90 minutes of light. A bit pricey though! Light-For-Life

At $170 that's just a little too awesome. I have two cars on my property that I paid less for...

Streamlite or Surefire, Cabela's brand is pretty good as well. Make sure you get a unit with easy to replace batteries if it is going to be used as an emerency light. There is nothing like searching for 6V lithium batteries in Grass Range MT, my Surefire became a paperweight.

I found a set of four of these at cost-co for $8. My kids have had them for over a year and they still work great. Never needs batteries and 99% of the time the light output is more than enough for the job- on "my" boat or at home.

It must use a high capacity capacitor system. Like a camera flash. It then trickle-drains it with the LED for a life of 120 mins per charge. Interesting.

They have been working on similar technology for cars, pull in to a "charging station" plug in a big connector, wait 3-5 mins, and you're set for another 250-300 miles. That would be awesome. With a 240 or 480 volt charger you can move some serious juice pretty quick.

I've got the same model and it is hands down the greatest flashlight you could ask for. Found it on the side of the road after a blow out about a year ago. Until about 5 minutes ago I had no idea it cost more than the new tire I'd be buying.

My family have always been MagLite people, and when I eventually lose this little guy I'll probably go MagLite again..... but damn this thing is awesome.

My advise: Find yourself a SureFire LED flashlight on the side of the road.

I would not like having to find their $pecial batteries for it. My 2D MAG runs forever on a $2.50 pair of normal batteries available everywhere.

Lowe's sells the Sure-Fire brand 123 lithium batteries for about $5/pair. That's only twice the price of 2 D's, and they do run for a long time. Plus they have a 10-year shelf-life. Other brands of 123 batteries are horribly overpriced.

the batteries cost .97 each. I buy them there, shipping adds somewhere around $3.00 to the order. These batteries are just fine.

If you want a cheap bright light I'd go to a bicycle shop and buy one of those little LED things that take standard penlite batteries and are designed to fit on handlebars.

They are small enough and cheap enough to wedge virtually anywhere - so if they break it doesn't really matter (besides there is always duck tape) - and the battery life is outstanding.

You can buy them here in Holland for 2 Euros - that's about 2.5 USD - as nearly everything is cheaper in the USA - may be they'll be cheaper where you are!

Underwater Kinetics

Underwater Kinetics 4AA.
Doesn't have a black hole right where you need it like the maglight
I can hold it in my teeth without gagging
Buy it new and it comes with 4 duracell AA
You can drop it all day long
Flat so it doesn't roll out of reach like the maglight
Flat so it fits easily in a pocket
Waterproof
Excellent for blood trailing deer
about $20
