Maybe a trace of 'attention whore' action. OTOH, some of the story coming out now is halfway plausible. Kid is seen climbing into it somehow, seconds later is not seen climbing out and accidentally releasing it. He knows how into it his father is and runs to hide in consternation.

No matter what, something tells me that dad is going to milk this exposure somehow. No matter what they do to him, he might come out ahead.

The press was interviewing the neighbor to attempt to determine if the father was a little bit crazy..........and this constitutes news in some way?

Helium balloon lifts off and lands in field. An addendum on page three is all the entire BS story is worth.

Except that it was reported that a 6 yr old was inside an uncontrollable balloon.

I can see why the news channels gave it live coverage.

Shepard Smith kept saying he thinks Authorities should look under the kids bed. As it turned out, he was almost right. He was hiding in the house because he was afraid of getting in trouble.

I wondered the same thing. Why weren't the boys in school?

Some schools in Ft. Collins are on year round school I think so they get vacations at unusual times. Or, maybe they are home schooled.

Oh well, it was catnip for cable news. I don't watch the news that time of day. I happened to catch it and you did sort of wonder at what to do if a child were in fact on the balloon.

Did you wonder?

All the news outlets couldn't stop foaming the mouth at the wonderment.

Here's a clue..........how about waiting until the balloon finally lands itself?

Worst case scenario: Put a helicopter above it and use the downwash to force the balloon to the ground.

Done.

There are many tragic scenarios that beg the question of what to do (trapped miners comes to my immediate mind). This doesn't come close to such a scenario.

Darling Wife just found a clip - whole family (including balloon boy Falcon) being interviewed.

Interviewer asks Falcon why he didn't come out when he heard his parents calling. Kid didn't hear the question, so dad repeats it.

Falcon says: "You guys said we did it for the show?"

Dumbarse dad then rambles on trying to ignore what the kid said. Dumbarse interviewer gives him a pass.

Holy crap, if this was a stunt, won't be easy on the guy. But he might still come out ahead in the all publicity is good publicity dept.

I saw one clip where the reporter asked the family if they thought they might get billed by law enforcement. They laughed with the shaking head gesture, like "what next?" and the guy said "I hope not."
