Look what I saw at the dealer!

So in my boondock hick town of Erie Pennsylvania we have an authorized Mercedes Benz dealer called Contemporary Motorcar. They're pretty good and have a typically large collection of Mercedes Benz cars with some Acuras that they also service and sell on the side.

Well I had ordered a part last week and it came in so I was walking in and I immediately get a glimpse of not one, but TWO 350SLs they had on the sales floor TRYING to sell The car had 600 miles on it and the interior was perfectly fresh. The sticker on the car said that they wanted $38,000 for the car.

I ended up talking to the salesguy there about how he loves the older benzes so I showed him mine and my epic 300,000+ top score.

I go to the parts counter and grab my window sealant. As I was walking over to the payment desk I look out of the window that goes into the shop and I see this thing!

I was like, "Is that a Delorean?" (Yes it is!)

So to recap, my authorized MB dealer services not only services Acuras and Benzs but they also work on Deloreans and other retros cars that can't be seen in this picture.

And yet they wanted 8,000$ to work on mine

I want to meet the guy who brought it in to them! He must be clothed in cash.

Oh man I would have taken it for a "test drive" and never came back LOL

Was the dealer selling it? I would have forgot what I was doing there and would have been all over it haha

Cool dealer find!

I used to see a Delorean in my neighborhood occasionally, I don't know if it's still around.

Thumbs up *** It's a small world... ***

I was in that place last week or so...back on the 17th...

Those cars in that area of the garage ('67 Chevy, the two Vettes, the 50s PU and the Delorean) are all owned by one gentleman...one of the owners of the Dealership (I didn't ask his name).

Just on the other side of the wall across from the DMC are a "few" other items of interest...

An earlier 350SL with euro-appurtanances, a WWII-style Volvo Radio/Staff Car/Truck(?) and a 60s Citrogen...all owned by the same gentleman...

My understanding from Dana at Kusak Towing is that the owner is a "regular" at Barrett/Jackson Auctions and related events...apparently he's a fairly well versed seller as well as buyer...

I've got shots of the DMC...in the same location as your shots...but I can't get them excepted here...I tried getting a shot of the odometer but the lighting wasn't just right and you DON'T want to touch the vehicle whatsoever...doing so makes YOU the ONE the ruined it for EVERYONE ELSE...and it gets the "floor help" into all sorts of water...the "over the head" and "HOT" kind...IYKWIM...

Let me know how/where I can my shots on here and I'll show you what the crew let me shoot.

BTW1, I asked David (Service Advisor) and his gal "Friday" if it would be OK to take a few pictures of the owner's "crew" before I took my camera out - did you have to do the same?

BTW2: TheDon? I IMMEDIATELY though of you the second I saw that thing...Your posts about your love-affair with the DMC brand is etched into my mind...if anything, I'll see if I can, at least, send you the shots I took...

600 miles for the 350SL. Yes it is VERY unmolested. The car is absolutely beautiful, like it was store room fresh. I didn't grab the VIN and I have no reason to head back into town today so I'm sorry Oh and my apologies for the confusion in the miles on each car.

Those are the EXACT same cars! I'm kinda disappointed right now that I didn't get a chance to meet you haha.

I have no reason to go back to the dealership. I am happy I got a little camera pic of the Delorean. I didn't want to get any closer because I was getting dirty looks from some of the staff behind the counter. Absolutely beautiful.

@TheDon, I'm wished I grabbed a better picture for you. However I now have a love affair with the DMC brand!

No it's one of many things I have left to do before I die.

Probably either as amazing as my 300D or it'll completely suck. I hope it's amazing

Your fascination for the DMC is without foundation. It was highly overrated and was powered by the ill-fated Volvo-Renault-Peugeot joint venture V6 engine, which was plauged with main bearing problems. I knew people at the time who owned both the DMC and the Volvo with the affected engine.

It's mostly my love of Back to the Future.

So, who wants to put a 617 in one?

The visibility is like that of the countach, it sucks. Blind spots galore.

Denting the stainless is alright as its not too bad. DMC can repair it as can anyone that knows how to work stainless. I had a dented panel I took to a local stainless steel biz to see if they could knock it out and $45 later it was perfect. Compared to the $110 an hour any DMC affiliated shop would charge.

The PRV is a good engine, if its maintained properly. The killer is the K-jetronic fuel injection. If not taken care of properly it will act up and when it does it is expensive. I was doing a 3.0 PRV swap which came factory with EFI.

I had one of those VPR v6's in a volvo wagon. I got good service out of it but many people had cam trouble. I changed my oil ever 1500 miles iirc to be sure. It is a very torquey engine and makes a lovely moan when you rev it out. It transformed the volvo from a heavy feeling trucky car to a light feeling car with sporting pretensions. It has a main bearing girdle which resembles a cosworth indy engine from below.

That block was the basis for the over 1000 hp turbo renault F1 engines.

And the BMW 2002 block was the basis for the 1000+ turbo BMW F1 engines of the same era.

its amazing what can be done with turbocharging!

the early PRV's had oiling issues. Volvo solved it by changing the grade of oil used. But the Delorean 2.8 is improved and has a different cam setup.
