Yup, that's what happens in a two party system when one party decides to take their ball and go home. I do hope that the republicans get their act together sometime within the next decade, I don't like seeing a single party government operating in the dark either.

I found it too, I was just trying to train jz to post links to support his statements. It didn't work, but I'll keep trying.

I'd say that everyone who's ever cast a vote in an american election has been duped. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Rewarding stupid behavior only leads us all downwards. Instead of spending all this time arguing how to pay for such stupidity, we as a nation- and congress specifically- ought to be figuring out how to punish people that make stupid decisions that hurt all of us, not reward them.
You forgot to mention people who thru no fault of anyone else were born with weak or defective organs. They just suck more from a system than they will ever pay into. Should insurance companys purge these weaker humans and lower the insurance rates? You advocate that nature take its course?

Is that your idea of limited government?

I'd like you to tell that BS to someone who gets cancer and wasn't able to afford health insurance because they earn $35K per year.

Let me provide the condensed version for everyone else on the thread:

"It sucks to be you".

Yeah- you smoke? no health care money for you that treats smoking related issues. Are you obese according to the BMI? No health care money for you related to your being fat.

I didn't need but one paragraph.
People will get the message and stop smoking and eating too much.

I have no problem outlawing tobacco, dealing with fat americans is a little more difficult. Just kidding of course, all this would do is produce more uninsured people to go to the ER for their primary care.

We've already had this argument- and it does suck to be you- (not you BC) the one who made stupid decisions. It sucked to be the one who decided to go swimming with sharks, it sucked to be the one who knew it was a stupid decision to shove fatty food down your gullet, it sucked to be the one who thought they would be cool to get as close to the cliff edge as they could. It does suck to be the one who chose to make stupid decisions.
Why are you defending stupidity? Why should we pay for and reward stupidity?

ER's are not the choice for "emergency" care anymore for smart folks. Private urgent care centers in most cases except life or death are being used. The shift is being made because of so many folks using the ER room as primary care. Many of those folks are using the ER because they made bad choices in life as my other posts point out.

I've heard that every one will die sometime or other. Do you have a intelligent point to make about public money being spent?

I don't see any way of eliminating the support for the people who make bad decisions while simultaneously provide assistance to those who get a disease that is not relevant to their lifestyle (if this can even be determined with some certainty).

If there was a method, it would not be politically palatable and the chances of implementing it are zero.

So, either you accept the stupidity with the random disease or you don't assist anyone...........and take the "sucks to be you" position.

Choose one. Your rhetoric about people who are fat and watch TV is getting long in the tooth.
