Yep, just like there used to be (still is, in some circles) pressure to marry someone of the same race. Same silly cultural hang ups driving certain folks then as now.

I've enjoyed reading your replies, thanks to all who posted - it helps give me perspective on this strange and difficult situation.
As for the division of assets; here in Mass there is a "fair and equitable" division of all marital assets. The posts earlier about infidelity are pretty accurate, it's just about a 50/50 split regardless of why the marriage failed.
We went to mediation to try and divide our assets so I would get more, but my soon-to-be-ex just said "I want half", never wavered, and is getting just that. She's done pretty well on the money side, especially for a woman who earned $9,000 or so thousand last year
Thanks again all, enjoy the day. I'll post back Wednesday after we go before the judge!

A co worker had his MA marriage break up, she was sleeping around with everyone while he worked 60 hours a week for City of Boston. She, so far, has lied, faked documents, etc to get 70% of his assets dispite his paying for the kids college, carrying her under his health, so on.
She has filed false docs claiming kids are HER dependents, he has been paying all and kids have not been in her house since divorce. Mass Court has tied up his assets, garnished his pay and raped his bank accounts defting the Superior Court decision overturning her claims. Now IRS is involved and he is getting a review of last 4 years of taxes.

What burns me is he presented evidence she was living with a guy, filed false docs with state and feds claiming dependent status for her and kids, plus sold their house against court ruling but Mass went after him for everything...

I told him he should have installed her between the rebar mats in the Big Dig and let the concrete flow!

Well buckaroo YOU just haven't met the right boys from Texas.

Actually the big cities in Texas are much less conservative than you would imagine. I was raised in a very conservative backward part of Texas but I got to Houston as soon as i could

Yup, cities everywhere are pretty much the same. I spend a fair amount of time around DFW, mostly just strip malls and pick-up trucks like any other mid-sized city. Last year I drove from DFW to LA, west TX is pretty remote; oil wells and desert.

Antony,

I suspect there were no children, if so that is one good thing, not to have to go thru those added emotions.
Tough to let go, you wonder what just happened, But you will get thru this. If you have your health, family, friends you will move on.
Good Luck this week, and for many years to come.

Gary

I like to throw digs like that in every chance i get. Where i was raised it would still be illegal for blacks and whites to marry if they had their way. They've come up the evolutionary ladder kicking and screaming. That's what I mean by conservative backward.

I doubt they understand what the "evolutionary ladder" is.

IMHO, "conservative backward" is redundant.
