Your point is certainly well taken, but where in your argument does the non-latino population's stereotyping of all latinos fit in? I KNOW that all asians aren't Chinese and would never presume to guess on the national origin, ethnicity or citizenship of someone who appears "asian". You don't seem to feel that the non-latino population has any responsibility in making these distinctions. I do.

I may feel that you should this, that or the other. It doesn't matter. I have to realize that it isn't happening in real life. As I said, I have an egalitarian answer for you or a real life answer. The egalitarian answer is your talk about responsibility. The real life answer is "Either stand up and separate yourself or be counted in.". Would it be nice if we could separate the LEGAL Mexicans from the Illegals? Absolutely. Should we as individuals do that? But of course. Now lets talk reality. It ain't happenin. As such, the next best thing is that YOU show them the separation. Yes, I know it sucks and it isn't fair that I have to separate myself from you scumbags but that is the reality of life. That or I can forever be linked with you and go down with you. (Not you personally).

So in other words, I should "prove" that I'm not a gangster and not an illegal? I should "prove" that I'm not a supporter of breaking immigration laws? In order to not be singled out by law enforcement because of the color of my skin I need to "stand up" and change the stereotypical attitudes of an entire society of non latinos? No thanks. I'll pass.

OK. You seem to want to wait for people to do the right thing and ***** about it in the meantime. Fair enough. You will be long dead, decayed, your crypt disintegrated and the sun stop shining before that happens.

You seem to be the type that will say "Well, it is my right and your responsibility to do the right thing.". Well, I totally agree with you. OTOH, just because I agree with you doesn't mean that I agree it will happen in your lifetime or my lifetime or the sun's lifetime. That is why I said that if you don't like the stereotype, you and your group need to make sure that others can see the difference. Again, is that right? Nope. Is it practical, I think so.

If you are going to expect that people will do the right thing, you might as well wait for the sun to rise in the west. That will come sooner.
