Other than that, I don't really want to listen to any of the shows. Most of them are so blatently one sided that I just tune to a different station. My feeling is that if I can detect a slant in the program, either left or right like say NPR or Rush Limbaugh, I tune off the show. If the entire channel has too much of it like NPR, I tune off the channel.

I've given up on terrestrial radio. On XM: Opie & Anthony, NPR, old time radio shows, Blues and classical music.

About ten years ago, on the fringes of the Dallas area, I hit the scan and stopped it on NPR which is 90.1 there. I think the freq was 90.3 or something, but I about 80 miles away so I just figgured it was drift.

The speakers sounded just like the current NPR reporters, the tempo was the same, but the news they were reporting was full of religous references. I knew I was listining to something besides what I was looking for, but I decided to keep listining to see what the joke was.

They finally identified the station and it was not NPR, but an NPR clone. The FCC asked them about this and they admitted they were trying to trick NPR listiners into hearing 'the truth'.

The station finally switched formats as the ratings showed that they were listened to for no more than ten seconds before the listner switched them off.

Another casaulty in the battle for the 'hearts and minds' of America, I guess.

That's funny, I once listened to some radio gun show for about half an hour before I realized it wasn't a parody; it was actually a radio show for people to call in and talk about their guns; it sounded like an old SNL bit. Some part of this country are "interesting."

Some local talk and ESPN Radio, but usually Sirius-Outlaw Country, Prime County, Octane, Hair Nation (ironic

), ocassionally 40's, 50's, Sinatra, Trucker's Radio Network.

Both TV and radio are still a complete wasteland, fortunately they is no need to watch/listen anymore; plenty of other sources.

My kids actually found a radio laying around the house someplace a couple of years ago and entertained themselves for hours listening to some crazy lady shrink yelling at all the idiots who called into her show.

An NPR show, Left, Right, and Center is one of my favorites. Often has Tony Blankley (WA times) one of the most sober and solid conservative pundits IMO, Robert Scheer, a sober and articulate leftie, and Arianna Huffington in the lineup.

There is no fair discussion of anything on Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Ingraham, or any of the other propo shows on rightie radio.

I tune into those people now and then for brief periods out of curiosity. Very slanted.

Living on Earth, On the Media, This American Life, and Wait Wait Don't Tell Me (all NPR) are pretty good.

Prairie Home Companion is usually good. Le Show, with Harry Shearer is usually a hoot.

Radio would be a serious wasteland w/o public radio. Good lord, the loud obnoxious ads on Limbaugh's show are tough to take. I'd MUCH rather send off a check once or twice a year than listen to that pumped up promo.

You can get all the NPR stuff as podcasts so you don't have to deal with the PITA radio thing.

I think you tune them in just so you can have something to ***** about. Why don't you pound nails into your hand? I know I don't because it is not a pleasant feeling. Similarly, I don't tune into their time slot if I find their program annoying and if the station is mostly that way, I don't put it on my preset list. Even Christ asked if he could be spared the cup. You, OTOH, seem to want to drink from the cup. Therefore, the only conclusion is that you derive some pleasure from it. Most likely, something to ***** about later on.

If it wasn't already, maybe.

A simpler way is to not tune it in but as my theory goes, you'd have nothing to ***** and whine about, would you?
