A Euro 280SEL might not be that slow. Eurospec M110s (M110.989) actually crank something like 185hp...40 more than the OM603!

But would'nt it have been depowered a bit by the federalization process?

It's not that rare if they built 20,000 units. There were only about 7000 units of my motorcycle built, and it's not really worth anything. I doubt he's very serious about selling it.

Can't believe no one pointed it out yet. Not only is he asking 100K, that is the STARTING bid. . There is a reserve set. God only knows what the reserve is? 150K, naw, probably double the starting bid, 200K is a nice, round, number.

That M110.989 has 185HP, which is plenty for that car.

Although my US spec 280CE(M110.984) only has 145HP.

I had one of those for awhile. It was an '85 280SEL. MAN I loved that thing!

I always got 21 mpg. The car had no power off the line, but at 5K rpms is when the fun began The sound of that mighty fuel injected DOHC straight-six caused my eyes to tear up as the engine spooled nearly 7K on the tach (redline was 6.5, but the limiter didn't know that).

They are quick enough, believe me! But you have to goose them to get there (they're more anemic off the line than even an M103 SEL).

He's from planet dork.

Here's my question to the seller, LOL

Dear 77777.727,

100 grand?? WTF? You haven't given any valid reason the car could be worth even 10k. So what if they were not imported into the US

Seeing a message in his Ebay inbox might get him excited for a nanosecond, until he reads it, that is

I think we should all pitch in, and flood him with some inane questions. One specifically, is monopoly money accepted?

The reason they are so quick is actually they have a VERY peppy rear axle and move at pretty quickly from stop lights in the city, because of the gearing.

Which means, naturally, at much higher highway speeds they will run out of breath quicker than the long legged cruisers like the US spec 300SEL variants that have "lazier" or "economy" rear ends.

The 280 and 300SEL have the same gears. 3.46 for both. They only run out of breath past 120 + mph. That's when they run out of revs.
