Dear smiffy6four,

WHY ARE ALL OF YOU QUESTIONERS, SO UPSET? IF IT BOTHERS YOU THAT MUCH, DON'T LOOK!!! HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY IT, YOU CANNOT FIND EVEN A BEAT UP PIECE OF CRAP 1 ANYWHERE!!! IF YOU FIND 1 PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!! I HAVE SEEN RICH PEOPLE SPEND MILLIONS ON CARS AS RARE AS THIS, IT DOES NOT MATTER ABOUT THE MILEAGE OR POWER, YOU COULD BE AN OWNER OF SOMETHING VERY NICELY KEPT THAT NO ONE ELSE HAS, THAT'S THE VALUE!!! HAVE YOU EVER HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO BUY A NICE 1 OWNER 280 SEL IN YOUR LIFETIME? IF SO, PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHEN AND HOW MUCH!!! Thank you.

In keeping with the spirit of today, I give you my reply to the sellers rant:

Dear 77777.727,

Is monopoly money accepted?

cut and paste of my question to him...

"Before I get involved in a bidding contest on this wonderful automobile, I would be curious what your reserve price is. I cannot see going much higher than the starting bid."

Trying to get maximum entertainment value here, see what kind of ridiculousness he responds with....

I remember seeing a much nicer post 86 280 on ebay a little while ago for a fair price.

This car isn't even in that good of shape. Its just a middle of the road driver.

Here was his response to me:

Listen here butthead, and that is being nice. 280 SE cars are all over the place, I understand that!!! Why don't you find me another 280 (SEL) and send me that information. HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL EVERYONE, THIS CAR IS EXTREMELY RARE & EXTREMELY WELL KEPT 1 OWNER!!! I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY OTHER 280 (SEL) IN MY LIFETIME OF 40+ YEARS. Are you a Mercedes-Benz expert? Obviously you are not a real PLAYER! So do us all a favor, and get out of this loop! Rare, definitelty makes this one valuable!!! Do your homework before you open your dumb mouth!!!

I responded explaining that 2 of my Mercedes are actually rarer than his.

My SDL was probably a one off, heck they only made 2,300 350SD's.

So does that make a 350SD worth $200k?

I'm feeling a bit entrepreneurial today and sent him the following:

"I may have a line on a set of NOS genuine Mercedes-Benz sheepskin seat covers that were designed specifically for the W126 sedan series. If I can find them, I may be able to let you have them for as little as $10,000. You could then increase your asking price by, say, $20,000 and pocket an extra $10,000 in profit. Let me know!"

I posted a question also, he's gonna hate us

What makes you think your car is so uber rare that it is worth that much? It has twice the mileage of my 85 380SE and wasn't owned by a celebrity. The last listings for 85 S class sold between $4500-7500. This is an honest question, I collect Mercedes and this price is not realistic even for a new one.

I was going to ask him if he would trade the car for one of the following:

1. One of the eight originally fabricated Citroen DS21 four-door convertibles

2. 100 lbs of cheddar cheese made in the same year as the MB

3. An autographed photo of the man who invented crunchy peanut butter.

I'm hoping he'll want the cheese....
