There is no age requirement, it is a state of mind. Some people will get to geezer way before others....

I, personally, intend to stretch out the 'codger' stage as long as posssible..

This means the AAA sticker on your back bumper is NOT on crooked.

I get junk mail from AARP wanting me to become a member, but I'm still working - guess that puts me in the "codger" stage.

And the guys at work would probably add the adjectives "cranky old" to that.

Speed bumps are dumb, plain and simple. If you have ever noticed...99% of the population ignores them or drives even faster over them. Except the very few of us who care enough . Some fairly large bumps got installed into the entrances of my parents neighborhood a few years ago. I'm the only one who I've ever seen slow down for them, and I've even been honked at for slowing down to 5mph! It is painful to see various soccer moms in their SUV try to rock those bumps at 30+mph.

Although most bumps around my town are designed reasonably and not to break stuff. My W124 can clear pretty much everything around here without slowing down. But as far as the kid running out, etc. Most people don't realize that stopping from 25mph to zero is very quick as long as you aren't daydreaming. Someone would basically have to throw themselves on the hood while driving through a neighborhood for something disastrous to happen. Someone think of the children!!!?!??!?!?! The children need to be taught to pay attention to fast moving, heavy objects, that they will constantly have to dodge all the way through life.

Just can't agree with you on that one. Maybe you think they are dumb, and maybe you think that it is solely the kids responsibility not to get run over, but I believe you are in the minority. Most of the people who dislike speed bumps are the folks who lower their cars to ridiculous levels, leave late for work every day, have no regard for anything outside of their own vehicle, and in general are most likely the people the rest of us refer to as "that moron I saw while driving...." (this categorization easily fits many soccor moms) .
If it weren't for the extremely violent speed bumps/depressions that were installed in the canyon road which passes through my little Colorado mountain town, the idiots would drive 60 through town (speed limit is 25). All it takes is forgetting once about those bumps, and you will most likely never forget again. I do think that speed bumps are overused in parking lots and such, but again, they are a nuisance to everyone because of the few who drive with such disdain for others, that they become necessary.

Maybe I was a bit overzealous in my speed bump hate . I do slow down for speed bumps whether I'm driving something with stock suspension or my 300E which is slightly lowered. It's just too much stress on the suspension to take a bump at speed. I also don't drive more than 25mph through neighborhoods. Or speed through parking lots. I didn't say it was solely the child's responsibility not to get hit, I am watching very carefully for balls going into the street and children playing when going through neighborhoods.

A human doesn't have many advantages over a car, even going 15-25mph. Children also need to be taught to be aware of cars, that is all. I sure payed attention to cars driving through the streets while playing as a kid. But I also know kids who were completely oblivious and almost got hit multiple times, who's to blame?

Therefore most people who aren't 16 know its not acceptable to take it up to 60 in the grocery store parking lot. And since most people don't even bother slowing down for parking bumps in the first place, what's the point in having them? They do have a very small place in certain instances. I can see people speeding through a mountain town at ridiculous speeds. In that situation a speed bump is a reasonable solution. It just seems to me, that America has become a nanny-state of speed bumps.

I have been re-thinking my desire for speed bumps on my road....I've decided instead that speed TROUGHS are a better idea.

I used to live on a road with a 40mph speed limit that they installed speed humps on- In my truck 20 across those was painful, but in my Subaru 50+ was fun. That little Hatch would sail off those things- A lot of people really hated them, though, since the road was the primary way into the Kitsap County fairgrounds.
When I was down in Nipomo, CA this past spring I got to experience speed troughs- They suck. There's a few on the roads around here, they try to pass them off as drainage but we all know better.

I dislike speed bumps. I dont hate them. I think they're useful to a point.

My 190E is lowered, but not to a ridiculous level in my opinion. It's picture was posted earlier in this thead. Feel free to evaluate.

I dont see too many speed bumps in my area other than those in parking lots and I think the main reason for that is speed traps. The cops use a lot of the areas limited to 35 (which most people do 40-55) as speed traps. I myself was picked up a few weeks ago. This isn't a residential road or anything its a state route, 5 lanes total, with steel mills (or remnants of) all around.

I dont know if I like the idea of a speed bump on a regular road. Even if the road is limited to say 25 mph. Taking a speed bump at 25 isnt pleasant. Its not very fair to those of us who DO obey the speed limit and have lowered vehicles.

When I was younger I would speed more however now-a-days I go with the flow of traffic and try to stick near the speed limit, maybe 5 over or 10 if its the highway.
I was once on a residential street in the 300SD and was yelled at by someone on the street for speeding. However I was not speeding, I was holding gears out and the diesel was pretty audible before I had the exhaust repaired.

Have you considered just lowering your car so there is at least 1mm of distance between the road and the undercarriage?

I am getting there. That is going to take more custom pieces.
