Texas is the best state to defend yourself in. Anyone on your land you can shoot and won't go to jail. They don't even have to be in your house, they can be stealing your car and you can open up.

Lots of others states make it harder to shoot the bad guys, not in Texas thanks to some 19th century laws no one bothered to remove from the books.

I think you can open carry to? If so I would rock a 1911 or S&W 627 on my hip.

Don't you figure, especially in Texas, that the douche bag who initiates the confrontation is probably packing heat too?? That would seem an obvious assumption to me, and a prudent one at that.

Pulling a weapon when you are facing an unknown, possibly armed douche bag is very dangerous. Hattie had it correct, that drawing and utilizing a firearm during a conflict is not as easy as the home grown Dirty Harry types like to imagine. If the other person is armed, and better trained, you just bought the farm, and they will have a legit excuse for blowing you away. (at least in Texas) It is kind of hard to present your side of the argument while you are taking a dirt nap.

Kudos to your lady bar owner. Having the weapon out and ready to use puts you in a far better position, not to mention the deterrent factor.
That's pretty much how I live around here. Nothing wrong with assuming that everyone is not only packing, but a little more nuts than I am as well.

X2 on everything else as well.

It's not quite that simple, but yes we are far more lax than most other states.
AZ is an open carry state. We're concealed carry here.

AZ recently amended their laws . . . no need for concealed carry permit and no duty to retreat before threatening or using deadly physical force against someone else in a situation where deadly force is legally justified.

I'll be applying for a patent on kevlar based halloween costumes for later this year.

I for one, feel very sympathetic for the FA that snapped! I have to deal with idiots much more than i care to. I'd shake his hand and buy him a beer! It was the wrong way to handle the situation but getting on the PA and chewing some ass, grab some suds and make exit via the emergency slide...... That is instantly classic! Alot of us have felt like coming unglued before, he did so in a way that makes me somewhat envious! Hope he gets a reprive.

I respectfully beg to differ! My 87 will do a fine job of getting out of its way and DB's

My dmax, not everyones flavor, will spank most everything around me if needed. I have anywhere from 500-600HP under my right foot. If our bless'ed lady of accerleration is needed, i have it!

Now i could be called an A-hole on occation when driving but i dont pass in the breakdown lanes and such, thats stupid and dangerous! If somebody makes a stupid move, opportunity givin, they will get a 1 finger greeting or a few kind words. Maybe im stooping to there level or that makes me an ass, but I truely, genuinelly dont care. I'll dish it right back.
I'll also let people merge in, or get out of the way, use turn sigs, (everyone around here must have broken arms because nobody signals)
all that stuff. Im not a complete ass, just to those that deserve a taste of there own medicine.

You don't sound like you know anything about firearms carrying.

Nobody in Texas or anywhere else that is carrying is going to attack anybody. They are going to SHOOT the other person doing the attacking - NOT play around with the; "I'm a tough guy, watch me go after you with my fists or baseball bat," types. Those kind of A-Holes are the ones getting shot dead. Only a moron would attack another person in Texas with a tough guy routine of fists or whatever. People packing don't start shooting anyone, and do not attack anyone - unless some dim bulb moron is attacking them. Then the attacker gets shot - hopefully dead.

Read WVOTOGO'S following post where he/she is not afraid of backing down in traffic because they ARE CARRYING, and if anyone is stupid/dumb enough to begin an attack on him/her - that person in a rage is going to get shot.

To me, that’s either pointless and just giving them attention, or a good way to get your butt run off the road and/or shot at around here."

The only skepticism I carry, is that someone who states what WvoToGo stated, "I simply don't let them in," is potentially more of a bully in traffic, and never back down in traffic, simply because they are packing. That to me is an immature attitude/approach to operating a motor vehicle, but so be it. That's a problem - but not against the law.

Never, ever attack/threaten another Texan, and you will live to see another day - is the best advice to follow.

End of story....

No kidding!! That crap was going on back in '08 when I first visited this town for a job interview, and there's STILL no end in sight.

Only two reasons I ever hit 410 - to get to I-35 northbound - even with the construction it's still less stressful in my book than the 20 mile jaunt around 1604 - and to hit the Northern Tool around Exit 18.

If you make it through then you get to enjoy the mess you described.

This exit tests every scenario discussed in this thread. Really makes you love your fellow human!! Wheres the beer and the exit door.

Thanks again TXDOT
Hey guy, looks like I'll be able to do Miss Ellie's this Friday - and probably for the rest of the summer. I'm back on days since that 4500 HP diesel crapped itself - lunched the entire gear train on the front end. Main idler gear hub is completely shattered - even the bearing sleeve on the shaft is cracked - and practically ever other gear has damage of some sort.

SRJ -
There’s nothing that anyone is going to tell them that is going to teach them anything.
If I see them coming from way back, I simply do not give them a space to run right into.
Neither do most everyone around me. Hopefully, some day, they may figure out that their running to the front of the line and not getting into it when and where they should isn’t always going to work. There’s nothing immature about teaching someone that their actions aren’t always going to be accepted and that they aren’t always going to win at their game. Especially when “the lesson” is provided in a very non aggressive (no anger shown) manner.
I have no idea where being a “bully” comes into play.
And - I very seldom am packing, BTW. Nor, do I make eye contact with them.

Also – When I see the sign that reads: Lane Ends (in a half mile +) Merge Right. I slow up to let most anyone in. It keeps the flow going. It’s when it comes to a stop up the road and some DB runs up the shoulder to cut in that I (and most everyone around here) provide the lesson.

Yup! Just saw that on Steven Colbert or Jon Stewart...poor guy...

I noticed the people working at the airport and on the plane on my most recent trip came in either one of two personality packages: Very happy or VERY annoyed.

On my way to Brazil, the guy who was checking tickets and passports before going through to the metal detectors was particularly PO'd that day. He even said that he was really cranky to all the people in line within earshot.

I understand that he was in no mood...and the people after him weren't much better. Someone else working in the metal detector area had a water bottle, held it up above their head, and screamed out to everyone still waiting in line "See this?! YOU CANNOT have something like this with you!"

*sigh* While on the plane, RIGHT before we are about to take off, the people in front of me always seem to INSIST on putting their chairs back even though they will have to put it in an upright position VERY soon. Which is extremely annoying. Since I end up not having any room because if I did the same thing it would probably annoy the person sitting behind me as much as it was annoying me.

Also on the way back, one female flight attendant looked and sounded like she was gonna do what this guy did any minute...she looked pissed at everyone. I barely bug the flight attendants on the plane, so it keeps slipping my mind that other people might not be as unbothersome as I am to them...so all I could think of was "Why is everyone that works for this place so GRUMPY?!" But yeah, it finally hit me now. It's gotta suck to do this with such rude people all the time.

Flight attendants used to have all the tools to make you happy on your flight. This meant blankets and pillows, playing cards, flight pins for little kids, a full bar, snacks and meals, headphones, masks if you wanna snooze, etc. We used to see flying used to be a privelege and we acted accordingly as well.

The same goes with any employee who has contact with the customer. They aren't allowed to do anything. Used to be the guy at the hardware store could measure the thread on a screw and find you the exact match for what you needed. Try doing that these days.

Well gee whiz Joe, it sure sounds like I know a bit more about it than you do, addresses notwithstanding. Assuming that everyone who carries a weapon is a mentally stable, non aggressive, model of humanity....that is delusional thinking, and will get you into trouble some day. I spent enough years living in the wild west, (mostly deep in the mountains, where the law is usually over an hour away) to know that there are plenty of losers carrying firearms, aggressive losers. Some legally carrying, some not.

I still maintain that anyone who breaks out a weapon because of somebody else's driving is a dangerous nutjob. If you resemble that description, then I feel sorry for you.

Calling somebody a bully because they won't let douche bags cut in traffic.... Guess I don't follow that reasoning either, and must now consider myself a bully, because I don't let those people merge in front of me either(unless it is a safety hazard to other vehicles) If you want to run past a line of vehicles waiting to merge/exit/whatever, then you should be prepared to wait extra long. At this point, I think I know who's behind the wheel of that camper trying to squeeze in at the head of the line.....

"never ever attack/threaten another Texan..." What are you saying?? That I have attacked/threatened Texans in the past, and should not do it again?? or are you implying that I am a Texan??
