Seems that ALL the preconceived notions by you guys and "the Press" were totally wrong.

It wasn't a gathering of all whites, or a new uprising of the KKK.

It was what many of you fear most--a religious gathering.

Somebody, quick, save the country from people who are praying!

Not those who are simply praying but those that are trying to blur the lines between church and state.

But why all the vitriol?
What? That excuses him for pushing a rip-off product regularly?

Vitriol? The guy is a liar and a propagandist and he's good at it. Such people have historically caused significant harm to nations.

He's a glorified morning DJ and even calls himself "a rodeo clown," that being one of his more honest statements. Fine, go for it, but this business of treating him like some great historian and borderline prophet is not a comforting trend, IMHO.

This is actually sorta rich. I'm the one with "so much hate," the one who is "afraid" while Beck is the guy trotting out lines about Obama having "deep seated hatred for white people." That line there is far more hateful than anything I've said about Beck.

Back on topic, Beck and Palin certainly have a right to their opinions and demonstrations but I have to agree with the post earlier that Beck takes good facts and then injects them into his own wildly slanted opinions. I have to give the guy major credit though, he is a master of persuasion -- just look at his audience. That being said, I disagree with a majority of his arguments and think those who blindly follow are a bit frightening to say the least. I need to check out more about the rally itself before commenting....

The fact that Beck held what was really a religious rally is a very, very big deal. So far the right has not come to terms with what has taken place, and when they do realize just what Beck was getting at there are going to be a lot of right wingers wondering what is going to happen next.

The Republican mantra of 'taking the country back' is vague so it can be all things to all people. Beck basically said the country needs to turn back to God. That will only happen one person at a time and it will have to come from within. This is 180 out from the Republican way of doing things over the last 40 years when the message was 'Elect us and we will bring about the change you seek'.

In the old days, when the nation was going through rough times, Preachers called for Revivals and preached that people needed to look into their hearts. Following the teachings of Jesus in order to improve society was the way that accomplished this is a slow and sure way. The Religious Right decided this was never going to work as fast as they wanted and that if only people were elected that would pass laws forcing people to live the way the Religious Right leaders thought they should would the country be saved from its' self.

I have known many hard core Religious Right types that freely admit they don't care what the Republicans do as long as they pass laws that force people to live the way they think they should. If you tell them that Jesus never said that was the way to bring about change it upsets them. If you point out that Chairman Mao said much the same thing as the Religious Right leaders when he said, "Power comes from the barrel of a gun," it sends them into a rage.

But Beck seems to have realized that the attempt to bring about social change by passing laws to control moral behavior has failed. Over the last 30 years abortions are up, divorce is up and drug use is up so what good has all the effort that has gone into getting the 'right' people elected come to? The answer seems to be nothing but failure if you put the numbers to it.

G. W. Bush was elected on the strength of his business background gained from running oil companies. Anyone in the oil business in Texas knows that Bush never made any money in the biz, and his background was totally inadequate for the problems we faced during his Presidency. Bush's response to any problem was to throw more money at it, just like he did in his oil businesses. Again, the Religious Right's hand picked man failed to bring about any change for the better.

Beck also did not allow any political speech at his rally. He told Palin that if she was going to mention politics that she could not speak, so she had to ad-lib the 'I am a mother' routine. The fact that Beck has now proven he can control Palin is, I think, the biggest story of the day.

I knew some folks that attended the rally, and after asking them for their thought they just said they were still trying to understand what it was all about. Beck had told them to expect something different and he delivered on that promise. People who went expecting a good old hate rally were left to scratch their heads and wonder what took place.

Beck also said to leave the signs at home and now we can see why. Hateful slogans and pictures would have not fit in with a message of 'Change has to come from with-in'.

It remains to be seen if Beck will keep up this direction, and it also will be interesting to see if anyone follows him along this resetting of the Religious Right dialog. Those that do will take a hard look at everyone who is running in November and will not just pull the Republican lever without thinking this time. If enough people do this it will cause a major shift in the way Republicans do things in the future.

Stay tuned!

Well, if you feel he is a nutball, why do you even bother with him? I know what he is and I just tune him out. You seem to be the one that is constantly looking him out to find out what the latest Beck saying is. So, do you also comb the lunatic asylum and tell us the latest ravings? As I said before, it is about intimidating anyone with right leanings and finding ***** material. IF not, why do you even bother to listen to his tripe? That is if you are not trying to link every right leaning idea to an "rodeo clown" to frighten it off?

Obviously he can't simply grab things out of the air. You want them anchored to some facts to make the sale easier.

The bigger the smile, the sharper the knife. That is why I make a practice of avoiding people who are persuasive. You can never be sure when you might get sucked into something devious by an innocent question or statement.

Why bother? I make it a point to avoid any of the media with too much of a left or right slant. Otherwise, left or right, you will find a master persuader who will lead you down a deep shaft.

When people no longer require facts to be an essential part of their philosophical belief system; when it is easier to remember the past as a lost utopia . . . then there is a fertile pasture for someone with the right manure to grow a crop of followers. Doesn't matter which side of the political spectrum they come from.

Beck and limbaugh and the others are all interchangable. As Limbaugh said once when I was scrolling thru the channels.
"I dont even have to believe what I say-I just have to stir up controversy and I have done my job"
That sums it up fo all the radio right wingie whackos.

They'd make a deal with the devil himself to achieve their goals. Nothing new there. It is always for the greater good that they do things or so they tell themselves or they'd never be able to get a good night sleep. Obviously they don't want to have the slogan "By any means necessary". They want to make it look like it comes from within.

That would only be true if Beck or Rush or any of those people really believed what they were saying. I don't think so. Basically, they will say whatever will get them a buck. Much like our politicians except Beck's method gets money to him either way. Win, lose or draw, he wins.

How is that any different from any politician we have today.

Why do you say that? Their vision of "better" might be different from yours. Their vision of "better" might be someone who hinders abortion or abolition of school prayer, etc, etc.

Better he controls it than allow Palin to screw it up. If you were running the show, would you allow her to speak? I wouldn't.

The country need not fear those who pray, but there might be reason to fear those who do their praying in such a public, self-righteous way. This especially true when these self-righteous celebrities do not conduct themselves in a fair or decent manner and yet can get thousands of people to travel from across the country to listen to their tripe. Those people are to be feared.

I'm not big on religion but isn't there something in the bible about submitting/surrendering your self to god or some such thing? Isn't that the idea of all religions, to submit ones self to a higher being?
