Pay now or pay later...

Home owner watches his house burn down, and so do the firefighters who would have saved his house had he paid his $75. Instant lesson on understanding the futurity of your (in)actions.

I wonder how his homeowners insurance views that situation?

The next story will be the town/ fire department being sued by the insurance company and the fire chief being fired.

This fire protection money needs to be paid for many, many rural properties for fire protection. There is nothing new here under the sun, nothing at all.

This story eerily sounds like a preview of how Federal mandated healthcare will work. The system will be so clogged by rationing and patients seeking care, that those who neglect to pay their Federal health insurance obligation, can easily be singled out for that neglect, and may be lieing on a gurney unattended to and dying because they didn't pay for services they may need.

Go ahead and post the story when it is printed. In the mean time I won't hold my breath.

You need to understand what is happening in health care NOW.
There is no rationing now,for emergency care, Why would having more people insured increase rationing?

For non emergency care those without insurance are already "singled out for
neglect"

Keep irrational fear alive....................

No problem with that. I doubt he couldn't come up with $75. I think he just thought he could get a free ride and that it would never happen to him. Good laugh though

I agree. Senseless stupidity of this kind is what keeps the ambulance chasers in business. If the guy has a mailbox still, it is probably overflowing with pro-bono offers.... Then there is the insurance company, bet they have more resources than the fire district....

All those fire fighters who responded need to be canned, along with whatever nincompoop came up with the rules. They have no business being in the emergency response field.

No, it is the 12 morons on the jury who keep ambulance chasers in business. They get what? 33% of the award or settlement plus expenses? How much is 33 or even 66% of nothing?

The homeowner needs to be canned. Why didn't he pay the $75 in the first place? What business do you own. Can I do the same to you? When I was in school, I decided to take my insurance payment and buy something good with it. Got away with it for 2 semesters. Finally, it caught me. I ended up paying big bucks which would have been covered. Still I never complained about my stupid choices and just paid for it via payments.

Actually I grew up in a rural subdivision where the same thing happened. I was too young to remember what the monetary stipulation was for fire protection, but one cold wintry early morning, friends down the street had a house fire. The city FD was dispatched, and they only ensured that the occupants were removed from the burning house, but otherwise did nothing but watch the house burn down like the rest of us.

Correct.

Some are clueless on the realities of rural fire protection.
