You got it. 2002 SL500 Silver arrow edition. 69,000 miles. Religious dealer service history. Seller parting with due to terminal illness (kinda sad, cool guy has alot of toys he's unloading) Coming to my door in the low teens.

The rubber on my hydraulics has 7 years on yours, and mine has never sat outside more than a few hours in its life.

Wow! Congratulations! We have a local club member with a Silver Arrow ed. and it is sexy.

Oh and where is the voice that tells me "thank you for playing" and that I won a lifetime of "Rice a roni, the San Franscisco treat"

Just coming back to thread.......OMG........that's gorgeous! It is just precious!

Is this a 'keeper?'

If so, I submit SILVER BULLET or PRECIOUS as names.

Has the GF seen it? If so, Granny's '80s something may be replaced by the SILVER BULLET......

Nice car, not a big fan of the two tone interior. Looks like a basket ball player or rapper owned it.

Doesnt matter how old the hydralics are man... Just comes down to use and preventative maintainence.

Once one goes, be prepared for more to go. Replaced 6 of the cylinders in the last 8 months! We speculate that when you replace one, system pressure goes back up, and more go out. Another one of the cylinders on the SL popped a leak recently. Need to replace the two as a pair - totalling 8 replaced in the last 8 months!

I'm curious how one would maintain the hydraulics on a convertible top?

Do they age quickly from too much use or too little?

Thankfully as more of these cars get older there's some good reasonable alternatives to dealer popping up.

dealership charges $800 a hydraulic ram/cylinder. This is because they cannot use rebuilt parts due to their franchise rights. So an R120 has 12 of these things and its best to replace/repair all at once.(I'm going to rebuild all 8 in the cabrio over xmas break). When I had to go get fluid for my top hydro system there was an r129 in the shop getting all 12 done.. I told the parts guy the owner of that R129 better love that car to be willing to drop $10k+ to replace all of the top hydraulics.

the hydraulics that are leaking in my car are the easiest to get to but its only $40 per to rebuild and I only have 8 so I might as well just do all of them for piece of mind. I knew it was going to happen.

or you can buy them from someone other than a dealer (they really should be ashamed of themselves for that ridiculous of a price) or have them sent off and rebuilt for $50 a cylinder.

My good friend Bob's '93 SL600 has yet to have a problem, though the death date on most of them seems to be around 15 years.

My uncle had 2 bad ones in his 99. 2 years later he has not needed to replace any more.
