They only have diesel-electric subs. No idea on the range

plus they are only midget subs

A Kilo could do it but would probably need refueling in order to make it back home again. Also the export versions (Usually) don't carry missiles.

My dad was on a boomer in the 80's and said it looked like a sub launch, question is from what country. He said the Kilo's were loud, they were easy to track. Can't imagine a Kilo did this.

A Type 94 Jin could do it, last I heard China only has a handful of them, like 3. I'd be very interested in seeing video of one launching if it exits.

This whole incident is starting to sound like the "weather balloon" explanation. The military is playing stupid and the media appears to be reporting nonsense even though the video pretty much shows a rocket or some other kind of propulsion.

What I find curious and interesting is that this part of the coast off Catalina island has been a UFO hot-spot for a long time. Yep you got it, theres a UFO/USO base out there.

I don't understand why we'd launch an ICBM from a sub "to let them know we can". We've been able to do that for what, 50years (starting with the George Washington class in 59)
I worked the SSGN refit on the USS Ohio, that was seven years ago now and that thing was already over 30years old then.

hat Royal Navy sub caption grounded his vessel in Scotland last month. Did his brother push the wrong button while approaching Long Beach harbor?

Good one.

But their is no possibility of an accidental launch of an ICBM on a sub. Whichever country that sub belonged to, orders were given from the highest level to launch. The launch itself required authorization via codes and several officers to execute.

No one person has the ability to launch a missile.

If this was ordered it's as top secret as it gets, OTOH like most cold war stuff we will probably hear about it 30 years from now in a book.

most likely Iranian or Chicom, thinking the former. There is no doubt they know who did it, and it is highley unlikely the sub still exists, other than has a wrecked hulk at the ottom of the ocean.
