They are fun to throw around the windie-twisties, though. No way I could ever justify one, at least in this chapter of my life. Maybe in 15 years or so when the youngest is (ostensibly) out of the house. Hey...wait a minute...

I find one to be quite talented when they can determine so much information about someone simply by the type of car they drive.

I don't meet his definition of a Vette driver either. I'm bald, but I've only been married once to the same wonderful woman for 36 years. I'm certainly not overweight, I don't wear after shave, never paid child support and actually have been able to afford quite a few more cars.

I bought my Vette about 16 years ago and have enjoyed it quite alot. I find it to be troublesome, full of rattles and a PITA to work on, but when I drive it the 20 miles of winding, hilly, no traffic road to town, it's a real kick in the A$$.

I think there are some people who probably need to reevaluate their stigma of people based solely on the car they prefer to drive.

Based on the hate mail I get, most everyone on this site thinks I'm a despicable human being. Does that mean that people who drive a Benz are all terrible human beings like myself?

My 91 Firebird has not had electrical troubles. I bought my 91 new and the troubles I have had with it are mostly engine but you can't blame the manufacturer since I was screwing around with it and making it do things it wasn't designed to.

My 91 Vette had quite a few electrical problems but that was because the PO would hack the thing here and there and not do what he was supposed to do. He would pull the bulb and take the actuators out because the FX3 shocks went out and he wanted to go cheap. When the starter relay had a problem, he bypassed it with a push button switch and called it a "theft prevention" device.

As much as I feel GM is a company that should have been out of business, I'm not totally sold on the idea that you didn't simply get a lemon from the get go.

Wow; he should have painted them, they would have become the only vettes in history worth owning. I wonder if that was his original plan?

It's not so much that as the "haves" vs the "have nots". If truth be told, the same things have been said about MB drivers, Porsche drivers, BMW drivers, etc, etc. Usually by the "have nots" so they feel better about themselves. I suppose I could rail on the Ferrari drivers or the Bentley owners.

I got you beat there as I can be a few pounds overweight and I wear Calvin Klein Obsession. However I am not bald, married to the same woman, have a couple of vehicles and don't have any kids or child support payments (knock on wood).

Ask the guy who owns a 75 pickup with more rust than metal on the body, spills more oil than the Exxon Valdez and the motor starts once in a while.

Years ago, my dad purchased a show-quality '69 Stingray (mid-life crisis, no doubt).

Wanted to drive it on weekends and display it at local shows.

It was a cool looking vehicle, but it had a chassis that resembled a '69 Chevy pickup than a refined sports car...and it rode like one!

Corvettes certainly have evolved!

I always liked the early '70's convertibles...

The '67 convertible in Goodwood Green is probably my favorite year/color...

I generally don't care for excuses, do you? You had home field advantage, Customers who hate the Japs and you squandered it all away for decades. You needed the Bush-Obama bailouts so badly that you had to put up with your CEO being FIRED by the President who basically appointed his successor. What else do you need as a sign that you are not fit to compete and should have been left to die? A sign from God?

Well comming from someone who has one in his garage. I can assure it this Corvette car is a joke. Its a 1991 Robert Jankel Tempest C4. Good looking. Its fast with 600bhp. Forget about having it as a daily driver. Its in the shop more times then on the road. It had to be towed many times. All sorts of electrical issues. The garage calls it a "Garage rat". The interior is cheap looking and creeks. The seats are not comfy by anymeans. I dont see what people see in them really other then a cheap plastic car to go fast in. I have been in a couple of the new ones and there even worse. $90,000 for a ZO6 at one time. HAHAHA They can keep it. Ill take a used F355 and go slower. Corvette is NO WHERE near what it once was.

I would have thought that the C6es would be well regarded - even by Corvette owners/fans?

I don't think any series of Corvette are any better than what they're making today. Perhaps I am dead wrong. Again, I don't feel comfortable in one, and to me it seems difficult to manuever in traffic because of their low-slung body, and lowered visibility to other cars on the road with you.

No, I don't.

But they're uniqely able to milk the American taxpeyer NOW, because they were not allowed to go bankrupt - as they should have been.

*Note* to American car manufacturers; don't agree to labor union sc_m contracts.

A little too late for that *note*........

I agree. I can't for the life of me think of ANY Vette of the past that can match up to the latest version.

What would be a persons pick of the old ones that are better than the new ones?

o Would it be because until 1974 or so they had point ignitions?
o Could it be that until 1963 they had a straight rear axle?
o How about the clunky independent rear suspension from 63 to 82 with the skinny tires? These things going into a turn would start to oversteer then GRAB.
o Maybe it was the carburetors that made them better than fuel injection.
o Would it be the higher level of rattles in the older cars?

Some of the older Vettes did have great Classic looks, but there has been technical progression right along. In the drivers seat, reliability, performance or technology, there is no older Vette that can hold a candle to the latest versions.

One area in which I will give the advantage to the early cars would be ease of maintenance, but that pretty much holds true across the board with the progression of most any car.

My $0.02,

I agree! Free enterprise is free enterprise. GM and Chrysler should have been left to live or die on their own merit.

One of the things that pops in my mind is that Hitler took over the auto industry also.
