It's been great. Now that Fiat (Ferrari) owns them, they have improved a bit. My Maserati has a Ferrari F430 drive train and F1 transmission. Very fun car.

My comment was tongue in cheek. I like the looks of the 57 but having owned fifties american cars the best you can say about the handling is that they rode nice and soft.
Being a guy who really likes handling a corvette will remain on my list of cars which I prolly will never buy. Usually I beat 'vettes on the autocross course but in the right hands they are very quick. With all that power they are not as simple to drive as a Miata. With the miata you can pretty much mash the gas anytime and not worry about spinning out. With a vette you always have to be very careful about applying the throttle.

Actually, my Vette looks like any run of the mill car. I'd rather demonstrate speed than advertise it so I keep it looking as "plain Jane" as possible.

I remember all the buzz when the C4 came out. You have to remember that the C3 was in production from the '68 through '82 model years, and was essentially a reshelled C2. The 1984 Corvette was a spaceship compared to its predecessor:

Anyone wanting a 53-4 could just get a 51-4 chevy frame -they are the same. And bolt on a repop body from LoneStar Classics--but they have probably succomed to the crash and no longer around

And your right that a few pieces of nice quailty interior trim wouldn't add much to the cost of a new car. An extra $100 bucks would make many drab looking interiors look fabulous.

On a very tight course in a parking lot, you would be right. OTOH, if there are straight shots like say Road of America, that might be a different story.

It would be silly to auto X a Corvette. There a pretty large car. You would be much better in something like a stripped down C Class or 3 Series. Autocross is made to place more emphasis on the way a car handles and driver skills rather than on sheer horsepower and thats why the Corvette that is RWD and has high BHP does not work for auto X. Not saying you can or people dont....Its just whats the point when your only going about 40-50mph and bhp is not needed. You would NEVER see me bring the 600BHP Corvette in the garage to a Auto X event.

Well I'd want to take it out on a real track where you can actually use all that power. Autocross courses are generally not conducive to that
