Why Are You Religious, or non/anti-Religious?

SEE IF WE CAN KEEP THIS A JUDGEMENT-FREE ZONE.....ASK QUESTIONS, BUT DON'T JUDGE OR BASH ANSWERS.

I'M CURIOUS AS TO WHAT OTHERS THINK, AND IF POSSIBLE - WHY THEY THINK WHAT THEY DO.

I AM NOT LOOKING TO ENTRAP ANYONE'S THOUGHTS OR EXPRESSIONS AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU......

LET'S TRY TO CONSIDER WHAT OTHERS THINK, AND LEARN FROM IT........OK?
____________________________________________________________________________________________________

I consider myself religious, and as a creature of habit, I embrace my religion.

I bought into what I was exposed to as a youth, so, yes, I think I am religious.

It gives me great consolation, in having those thoughts and feelings.

None of which can I prove or disprove, BTW.......

Great.

"Relating to or manifesting faithful devotion to an acknowledged ultimate reality or deity"

The answer is: yup. I am.

Oops, I missed the "why" part. Because it has worked for me and continues to. Individual mileage may vary. I wouldn't presume to suggest my beliefs are good for anybody else.

I don't feel comfortable simply saying I am religious, I am a Christian! I believe in God, in the birth and death of Jesus. And of course, "the resurrection changed everything!!"

Not sure there is a difference. I think the OP is talking about religion in the terms of being a theist. Whichever god/gods you believe in counts. IF you believe there is no god/gods it would make you atheist. If you don't know (in short) one way or the other, it would fall under agnosticism.

In a book as verified by itself, yes.

well, the title of this thread is "why" you are religious. (or not)

yet few here choose to explain why. because?

a) they don't know?
b) they don't want to say?

just wondering.

My take:
Jesus was a sociopath IMO (I know I'm going to get flak for this). His "miracles" blown out of proportion by people who did not know any better. I think he existed but not the son of God. The bible is more or less a lot of exaggerated claims used more for politics than religion but serves as a good moral guideline. I don't think ANY of us have the authority and wisdom to say there is or is not a God, it is something we are not supposed to know, and never will. It is good to do well unto others simply because that is humanity, and we are not all fortunate in this world. Speculation is good as it opens minds, but science is proven fact and that is solid so it is best to speculate off of known experience and knowledge than anything else (and it sometimes contradicts faith).

I got more but I'm tired and have to work tomorrow.
