Wolf or Viking?

...working on the plans for the 'soon-to-be-built' big house and would like to do the right thing on the showpiece kitchen. It's going to need a big-a$$ stove and a Wolf or Viking seems to be the choices.

Anyone here have enough time to quit b*tching about Obama or the Tea Party long enough to offer something useful?

Who here has one of these beasts? Likes/dislikes? Speak up!

What size are you looking for and who's gonna clean the thing? Do you want the best cooking stove or the best looking stove?

More importantly, is this a chili-cookin' machine? If yes, you need a slow cooker to get the beans just right.

More to the point is how you're configuring the device. Is it just the cooktop or with the ovens below? Number of burners. Need a high BTU burner? A true simmer?

Pseudo-home use 'commercial' appliances are typically energy hogs.

Unless you enjoy throwing money away, don't buy into that bigger 'commercial' look is better. It's not.

That said, I would nebraska Furniture Mart's website - electronics section as a comparative website on that commercial looking apps. you're interested in.

A friend of mine had Vulcan stoves put in their house. Real commercial grade equipment. Very good to cook on, but a bear to calibrate and keep clean.
No ignition system so you have to light every burner by hand...
using them in the house also voided their warranty.

They are really nice though...

People I know who have Viking appliances seem to have problems with them, I would go for Wolf.

Ditto the above. I don't have Viking, but friends who do have had numerous service visits.

I have a DCS 48" cooktop and would not recommend it. It's flaky and doesn't want to light. A boil over will cause an ignitor to not work until it's dried and clean enough for surgery.

The kitchen? Isn't that the room with the fridge and the microwave?

Is the stove that flat thing that I put the take-out on?

...the evidence mounts........ Haven't had issue one with my Sears Kenmore stove/oven combo bought 15 years ago.......

The 'cool' look of overpriced, oversized appliances to use as a family of 'fill in the blank,' costs ya dearly.

In my uncles new house he will spend about $40k on appliances. Nothing will be Viking. My friend has a custom Viking fridge built into his kitchen,($10k) its always being worked on. He is like I should have just bought an LG.

IMHO its a name brand thing, people like the name.
