You would be right with the appliance service, but you can only service like 5-8 appliances a day, and I can sell 20+ appliances in the same time frame. Typical profit margin on a used washer is $100 net. So its pretty close either way.

I tried my hand at fixing washers and driers but they are too bulky for me to move around. Also, I would be selling them out of my garage and people will want to see them run first. I would need a 220v outlet and a plumbing run to the garage. My profit margin on push mowers run between $50 to $150 each. About $200 on the ridings. And about $40 for the generators, saws, stringers, etc.

A lot of my customers are the transient type, so yes, plenty of repeat. Also a lot of referal type business. Believe it or not, most people change their furniture every 5-7 years. (these are also the people that buy a new car every 4 years, so dont be surprised if you dont understand) The business that you have in my opinion, is ideal: You have little/ no overhead, and you can do it in your spare time, or when you feel like it. Me, I have lights, gas, ins, fuel, labor etc etc.

I have a great executive sounding title, but I basically sell food to grocery stores in the U.S. and Canada.

I was in Exeter about a decade ago on the day the Cathedral devoted to lawyers. Huge parade of wigged advocates marching in to get blessed. Downright medieval.

Retired, formerly in the toxic chemical business. Now I'm in the "filtration" business: beer, wine, vodka.
