An EXCELLENT point. Even back in 2000, my boss told my supervisor to keep his piercings off and arms covered. I would guess it is even worse in this economy. Thing was that we were in the "dungeon" being IT and had to wear a tie during office hours although nobody would ever see us. Back in 94, the CEO of the medical group I worked for happened to come in early one morning and saw the housekeeping guy with a bull ring on his nose and dripping snot. He told the head housekeeper that either the ring would go or the housekeeper will go. When the head housekeeper tried to dispute, the CEO said "Either the ring goes, he goes or all 3 of you go".

I've never seen a tattoo that I liked. Piercings are just stupid looking and unattractive especially in the face. A student at school has a tattoo on the inside of his lip. It looks really cool - NOT.

I see it as an easy way to help narrow down the interviewee pool. When I was in high school and even in college people (especially girls) get the oddest tattoos. Why I don't know, but must be a blast to explain to people.

I have a friend who has a mortal combat tramp stamp, but she's indian so I'm not sure how that works out.

Pretty much, how can someone covered in tat's with enough metal stuck in their face to set off metal detectors half a mile away be taken seriously in the business world? NFW will you ever see that across the table at a high level meeting at GE, or any company for that matter. Try going to a banker and asking for a half a million line looking like that, good luck.

Unless they are in the entertainment industry.

Should be ok since you can wear a shirt to cover it up
