A high quality restoration I wouldn't think with those options more than $20,000-$25000.

A presentable driver, half $10,000 to low teens.

This one? As it sits 2-3k. Running, driving, and cleaned up, 5-6k.

That's my humble opinion.

well beings your in the northern states.alot will depend on the undercarriage.mustangs here in iowa are commonly refered to as rustangs.as most of them are rusted to cinders, most common areas are interior floorboards, the front rear spring mounts and the rear mounts where the shackles bolt thru the body.if these are solid that will raise the price.if i remember correctly the trunk floor is actually the top of the gas tank.and the trunks are fairly decent for not rusting too bad,but just like m-b's you have to check over the uni-body everywhere for rust.more then likely if it does have a 390 which it does look like after i enlarged the pic it might also have a 9 inch read end. easy to tell just look under the back end,if it looks as big as a 3/4 ton truck rear end it does.

I am impressed with your observation skills.

With an engine that big in a car that small, you would want some very effective brakes.

By the looks of it, that is a S code engine with a C6 trans. I think that is a rare car. With a C6, that is an ultra rare car. I might be crazy, but I think your looking at $35,000 plus for a high quality restoration.

EDIT: Convertible, S code with C6 trans = 146 built.

You guys are obviously very knowledgeable about Mustangs. If there are any specific shots you want me to take tomorrow before I leave, let me know. I'll get one under the rear end and also the door plate.

I can also email you the original pictures before I had to shrink them for the web page here. PM me if you want a copy of a higher rez picture.

Thanks for all the feedback. I appreciate it.

Richard

I was trying to understand what the S Code means so I did some reading on Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Mustang_(first_generation) I was looking at the engine types available in 1969 and saw there was a 390 and also a 428 Cobra Jet. I definitely saw the words Cobra Jet on the shaker when I was putting it back on today. Is it possible that a shaker could have been put on a 390 or does the Cobra Jet mean it is a 428?

That would be amazing:

Lot # 224 1969 Ford Mustang 428 CJ Cloke Convertible; S/N 9R03R116921; Indian Red/Black vinyl; Estimate $140,000 - $180,000; Facsimile restoration, 3+ condition; Hammered Sold at $52,500 plus commission of 10.00%; Final Price $57,750 -- 428/335hp, 4-speed, heater and radio delete, rally wheels, trim rings, F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas tires, no P/S or P/B. Gaudy clear coat repaint. Good interior, chrome and top. Some orange peel. Not impressive in this crowd and revealed in the catalog as not a real CJ despite the VIN (cataloged with an 'O' in the third position.) No Reserve. Reported sold at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale in 2008 for $203,500. A big 'ouch' for someone along the way, but a neat, fast car for the new owner at a realistic price. This is real money for an honestly-represented fake.

Again looking at the pic you provided, that is not a 428. It looks like a 390.
The "Cobra Jet" ram air shaker was used on both 390 and 428 engines.

This car definitely has a "FE" family engine which includes the 390 and 428. I might be wrong in thinking it is a 390 because anything can happen in 41 years, but the 428 Cobra Jets would have chrome stamped steel or aluminum finned valve covers.
This engine has painted stamped steel valve covers.
Also, unless someone removed the Thermactor Air Injection pump and tubing that is found on the 428CJ emissions equipment (shown in the 2nd pic above with the piping/hose going across the top of the distributor), this engine doesn't have it. The 390 uses IMCO emissions that doesn't use air injection.

To make sure the engine is what it is then get the engine ID digits. Engine tag, head, intake and carburetor numbers. Or open the engine up and measure the bore and stroke.

If it still has the data plate on the door, run the digits here.

http://www.mustangdecoder.com/plates_1968.html

This will tell you what engine came with the car originally.

The data plate will tell you exactly how, where and when Ford made it. What has been added, removed, revised, changed since then? The pictures will help.

Since the FE engine family includes engines from 352 to 428 cid, anything could have been substituted for the original engine.

However, if all the oem special equipment is there, it could be a valuable car.
