Do you think that this a man who is smart enough to consider the value of a good personal reputation? He has obviously decided to be a one-term slash-and-burn artist.

Maybe that isn't a bad thing after all. Unless you are telling me you'd rather have a leader that puts his finger in his mouth to wet it, stick it up in the air and see which way the wind blows. If so, haven't we had enough of that already with career politicians?

Billions were taken from the Road Tax fund to pay for things in the budget. While I support the fund in general, I sure as hell don't support how it is being used. If you took too much of my money, give it back. If you need the money to fix the roads, and you do, spend it there. Don't tell me it is for one thing and funnel it somewhere else. If you do, either you took too much the first time or you are being reckless with the fund.

Any objections to giving Grandma and Grandpa some relief in their heat bills? Apparently not. However, that money is being funneled to the DA's office. Why? You told me it was for one thing and you used it for another.

Is that the sort of career politician you want? One who can make you happy up front but stick it in you deep in the back?

What does the private sector pay towards their health care costs?

My moms out of surgery today, in addition to monthly health care premiums, there are about 2k worth of co-pays and out of pocket expenses. A cab with wheelchair access gets a premium!

Does that hurt the piggy bank for a while? YES! Am I unhappy about it? NO! The surgery cost about $250,000, and paying less then one percent of that isnt unfair! No rate increases, no dropped coverage, nothing of that sort.

Offsetting it by dropping cable TV services down to basic, and renting a movie if really wanted (with 12+ weeks of time off, yes, movies are important!
Also downgraded the internet service.
Also not finishing up the home improvement (all that's left is a bit of painting)

What would a government employee face, in the situation of my mother and myself? I dont want anybodys rights taken away. If your a lousy worker, you get fired. If you dont show up to work, you get fired. If your company cannot afford you, you are faced with a possible pay cut, or you are laid off until they can afford you.

Why the hell should a government employee be given the opportunity to be a lousy worker, not show up, and demand an unaffordable wage and compensation?

Airtight case you present.

100% correct!

Thumbs up Yes, game over, Governor Walker prevailed!

Governor Walker followed Constitutional law from all indications I've read.

He upheld the law, and of course the 'Will of The People' that elected him.

The Bill passed, by Wisconsin law, case closed.

I believe it is way past time for the fractional minority to move on.

But, but, but....

This financial crisis is forcing State and local unions to make some tough decisions.
If things continue for much longer, there's a real risk that we may have to lay off Jose.

You must be careful when reading polls, or you may get duped. Polls are often designed to produce as result rather than read the unbiased opinion of the people. Often the poll poses a binary question--Would you prefer teachers to be laid or, or pay more taxes, when there may be other options.
Often the questions are structured to lead to a given response.
One more technique that is not uncommon is to over-sample a demographic group to bias the results.
One recent poll in Wisconsin oversampled union family members at a % far in excess of the general population.

Not saying that the poll to which you are referring has unfair. It may be perfectly fair and w/o any bias. It may also be a tool to drive public opinion. Read beneath the headline.

So now all the economic problems of WI are over?

What about Civil Service laws? Don't those need to be destroyed as well?

My big question is: Two years from now, when WI is still deep in debt, who will the Republicans hold responsible? Not themselves to be sure, but there has to be another group out there that can be tossed aside so Republicans can claim they are not to blame for driving the state into debt.

I wonder who will get the blame next?

Anybody here have a contract with the state of WI?

Is it still worth the paper it is written on?

You might want to put them on your COD list.

The latest Rasmussen Poll shows Gov. Walker at a 40% approval rating. And that was about a week ago.

Rasmussen Polls normaly skew Republican, by the way.

40% is actually good for any head of state. Good in the sense that it's not 28%.

How many of us opinionizers are in Wisconsin? (I am not).

Might be interesting to see what Shopforum who actually live there think about it.

This is just not the approval rating. It is the amount of people that would vote for him if the election were held again.

But Republicans are paying attention to the voters! They are currently trying to find a way to overthrow WI law when it comes to re-call elections since at least three Republicans are sure to lose their seats soon and Walker will be looking for a new job after this November's re-call election.

After all, if you are going to toss government of the people, by the people, and for the people out the window then why not go all the way and get rid of all those pesky limits to a Dictatorship?

Maybe, maybe not but what do you want? A guarantee etched in stone?

It will be in debt as long as we spend more than we take in. Just like in your own home. Shuffling money around is only going to go so far then you have to make cuts. Should it not work, well, their future is going to be short. Again, no loss there as far as shortening a politician's career.

Where you are is not important. Every newly elected Republican is looking to WI for leadership in this matter.

I thought Republican said they were going to concentrate on creating jobs? Oh, well, I guess you have to abuse your power while you have it.

I think it is a bold move but as to whether it will work or not, time will tell. I don't think we can just get things done by a nudge here, a tweak there and a little push over there. These issues have been put off too long. Sure, when times were good, I didn't hear any complains about getting more and more but when times are bad and cuts have to be made, well....
