Draconian cuts or.......

Before the Repubs officially release their budget plan with its $5Trill in cuts over 10 years, post what you think will be the democrat talking point key words?

Draconian, Extreme, and "will kill children" are my guesses.

The sad fact is, even with those extreme cuts, spending will grow by $6 Trill or so over the same period.
Will government ever take the deficit seriously?

How much in interest payments is every man woman & child in the USA having to pay each year to service the deficit?
Highlighting that was a cornerstone in generating the will to pay off the deficit in Australia. We are now debt free here in Australia. Thats government debt.

THAT sounds like leadership! Something USA politicians have in minimal qualities, if at all.

Well, that, and the per capita share of $45,079.49 goes right over most of the public's head.

Well since they were describing the 66 billion in cuts the republicans wanted to make to the 2010 budget as 'extreme' I'd guess they are going to need some new higher-powered terms to describe the new budget.

It was funny watching Rachel Maddow last night licking her chops at the prospect of replying to the proposed republican budget. There was a twinkle in her eyes that reminded me of a kid on christmas morning.

I'd like someone to explain to me how its considered 'extreme' to cut 66 billion from a 3.2 trillion budget (2010) but its apparently not considered 'extreme' to propose a 3.7 trillion dollar budget that has 2.1 trillion dollars in revenue. (2011, Obama budget)

Its a game to them, the repubs will propose cuts to get at the dems, probably health care, and stuff to get the certain loud groups screaming, usually about kids.

Than it gets bounced around a bit, and at the end of the day they just cut $5 out of the toilet paper fund or something like that.

I disagree, Hat.

The toilet paper fund is probably one of the few areas they all agree and there will be no skimping on TP!

I thought it was funny that Republicans tried to use the Budget process to kill medicare and Medicade and then thought that no one would notice.

A simple reading of it is all that is necessary to see what their real intention is.

If they want to present a budget then they should do so. If they wish to kill Medicare they should work towards that. This sort of thing is always open to debate, but if you know you will be on the losing end you just have to be dishonest about what your intentions are and hope you can sneak it past everyone to make it take place then that is not leadership. It is dishonesty.
.

If they have to lie their way into anything they should be voted out.

Are they trying to present a budget or push through a failed agenda? They need to make up their minds.

Does that apply to democrats. too, or only to repubs and other non democrats?

What do you do when you run out of money? I see only three choices---cut spending, raise revenues, or live in denial.
So far the dems seem to prefer denial. After all they never did present a budget for the current year--an act of cowardice rather than leadership. Obama's budget proposal lacked any leadership, either. The dems appear to be playing for, and hoping for a government shut down so their friends in the press can blame the evil repubs as they did 20 years ago.
I bet that particular strategy will not work well for them, this time.

If the Republicans has presented a budget it could be debated. They presented a plan to defund every program they have been unsuccessful at killing. There is a difference.

If the programs they disliked were so bad why do we still have them? They could have easily done away with them at anytime between 2000 and 2006.

Bringing up any Democratic budget plan is outside the scope of the original question. And... I think I have made clear what I think should be the fate of dishonest public servants. They should be turned out of office as they are not doing their job.

If the Republicans had presented a budget plan that was rejected I think the people would blame the Dems for a gov shutdown. As it is, without a valid proposal from the Republicans, I think the people will see them for what they are and hold them accountable.

Republicans begged for 'one more chance' to show they could run things. Well, they got their chance and they blew it.

So what can we expect from Republicans from now on? More begging?

As far as running out of money....

I am in favor of raising revenue.

In California the gov is still looking for about $16 Billion. The new Gov, a Dem, spoke to the Republicans about it and they refused to consider any tax increase. So the Gov wanted to put it on a ballot and let the people vote on increasing taxes.

The Republicans, who apparently fear the people, said no to this as well and have the votes to block such a proposal from being placed on the ballot.

So the Gov is starting a petition to have this placed on the ballot. Republicans are now trying to find a way to prevent the petition from being considered.

The Republican solution? Destroy all public Unions and reduce the standard of living for every public employee.
